My mates Dad has the following, that he's had since the early 80's.
Beomaster 6000
Beochord 6000
Beogram 6002
Beovox M150
It had to be heard to be believed, and it created awesome sound. When the volume was turned up, the windows would shake!
Firstly, is there anywhere in the U.K. that can repair them?
Also, how much are the Beovox M150 Speakers worth second hand?
They are in very good condition.
TIA
I'd be very interested in the speakers
what is wrong with the system?
jason
Jason : I'd be very interested in the speakers what is wrong with the system? jason
You won't be the only one interested in these relatively hard to find speakers! If they are put on eBay they wil climb and climb with bidding.
You also asked the same question I was about to.
Dave.
After reading the ad again, I've restored a pair of m150s that sound amazing but only keeping them until I find a second pair of ms150s but yes there should be a lot of interest for them , not sure of thier value as they are quite rare and a bit big for most people and most likely need restoring
To be honest, I don't know exactly what's wrong with his system. I'm going to go and see him tomorrow. I think it's just showing it's age mechanically, but not physically. I have a feeling the Amp has gone, plus the Tape deck's not too good.
Apparently there is nothing wrong with the Speakers. I'll ask him what he wants for the Speakers on their own. I'd love them myself, but not sure if I have room.
I presume they'll sound fantastic with any decent Amp? I have a Technics SUA600 Amp
Is there a ball park figure on what the Speakers would be worth roughly ?
First of all, you must take the frets off the speakers and look at the foam rings of the bass drivers. They will probably need to be replaced.
They dissolve as time goes by. It happens to all speakers with foam rings. So be prepared to pay for new foam surrounds. There are quite many suppliers on the net that sells those. But don't try to replace them yourself, unless you know what you are doing. There are also a few Companies that can replace them. It will cost some Money, so be sure to get the speakers for a "good Price".
What that price will be is hard to tell. Try "googling" and see if you can find other speakers like them, to get an idea of the price.
Thanks for the information.
He's offered the Speakers to me for £50, or I can have the lot for £200.
I think the Turntable is an 8002, as the Tonearm is hidden in a housing on the right.
The Turntable Tonearm comes out, but won't drop onto the record.
The Amp still works, but it's stuck at one volume level, and cannot be turned up or down.
Plus the Tape Deck doesn't work.
I'm considering buying the lot and asking for a quote to fix it.
I have had the same type of Beosystem 6000 and Beovox since late 2007 as combination.
The Beovox as pointed out can have mostly developed rotten bas drivers and maybe the crossovers needs updated caps. They sound great with tight bass at any volume and can get pretty loud enough to compete with a large drum kit that is not muffled down.
Any of the Beogram 6002, 6006, 8000 and 8002 have the housing on right. 6002 is the least desirable one as it is a simplified version of the 8002. The 6006 and 8000 are the same just slightly different in the design with black buttons on the 6006. Both take the MMC20 range of cartridges.
The 6002 and 8002 takes the MMC 1-5 range of cartridges.
The volume stuck is typical and simple. Open the BM6000 and the volume problem is a belt problem. You can manually move it back. The construction of the volume is not the greatest thing and it has the tendency to get stuck.
The Beocord 6000 is the same 8000 but as with Beogram 6006 and 8000 different design with black buttons.
The belts have gone and that is simple to change. Hopefully the old ones have not turned into black mess to clean up.
Martin/Dillen here can supply belts, kits for Beograms and helpful advice on fixing everything.
The Beocord and Beomaster sounds like simple and easy to go about so if you dig the Beosystem 6000 then I can highly recommend it. You can get B&O SC60 stands for it.
Thanks for the information Friedmett.
I think i'll buy the lot and open them up first, to see if I can see any snapped Belts.
I'll also keep an eye out for an SC60 Stand.
Looks like I may have to sell part of my Technics separates system though.
Well, after almost 2 years, I am now the proud owner of the Beovox MS150 Speakers, in Rosewood.
Firstly, I need to replace the foam surrounds on them, as they are a bit knackered after 35 years.
I'm not sure if it's an easy enough job for me to do, or if I need to take them to the local B+O shop?
I will also need new speaker cables, as they have different connections. They have a 2 pin connection, where as my Technics Amp has the basic screw in post, that traps the speaker cable once you tighten it up.
What are my options there please?
You mean your B&O speakers have the only worldwide industrial standard connector for home audio speakers andyour amplifier has something proprietary or otherwise non-standard.Standard DIN speakercables with one end cut down to bare wires would be what you need.
Is it easy for you to replace the foam surrounds? Let me see - how can we answer that...If you know what you are doing, if you find decent quality foam rings with a good fit and some properspeakercement, get the shim'ing right and last but not least if you have practice and experience from something else (read: somethingcheaper and easier to replace in case something goes wrong)- then yes.
If not- then no.
It would be difficult to find original replacement woofers.
Martin
This is the worst one of the two....
And regarding the DIN standard connectors, yes, it seems my Technics does not have the DIN standard fittings. As you say, I can use bare cable at one end.
The cable supplied seems very thin for such an expensive Hi-Fi though.

You can use thicker cable if you want but the B&O cable is good quality and I bet you will not tell the difference in an ABX blind test.
Peter
Thanks Peter.
I'll give the current cables a try this weekend and let you know how they sound.
Regarding the damage to the foam surrounds on the woofers - will that affect the sound quality at all, or is it purely cosmetic?
Being new to this forum, I didn't realise that my first post is at the top of every page.
I thought I had re-posted it by accident, so I deleted the original text and put a . in there instead. I now realise I have deleted my original post.
Is there any way of getting it back please?

Here you are:
I perhaps should have explained: You simply search for 'Beo 6000 System beoworld' and ask google to show you the cached results, as shown here;

Many thanks Guy
No problem - a pleasure to help!
Well, I've tested them. And to be honest, my Bose 301 Series III Speakers sound better. They sound like they handle the bass better.
Now is this because I'm using a Technics SUA600 Amp, and not the B+O Amp that came with the original Hi-Fi?
Or could it be the damaged foam on the Woofers that's causing it?
To be honest, I can't see it being the foam. May be the Amp?
If the Beovox speakers are not restored then comparing their sound in that state is not a good test. The foam surrounds are not there for looks. They hold the outer edge of the cone in place as it travels in and out to produce sound. When the foam starts to deteriorate the cone travel is compromised and you won't hear what the speaker is capable of. The drivers with the foam rot are the ones the M-150 uses for bass. Of course there could be problems with other drivers in your M-150s as well as the possibility that the electrolytic capacitors in the speaker's cross-over need replacing. However, I would get the obvious thing, the woofers, fixed first and re-evaluate the sound.

Seriously, - by just looking at them, you can tell that they have serious faults and still you are judging them - comparing them to other speakers?Result being that you are not sure why they sound less than optimal and instead blame your amplifier???
The pressure chamber / bass reflex cabinets are no longer closed, the woofers have no edge suspension or damping andall T/S parameters are down the drain. That's about everything that must never happen to a speaker. - Not to mention a person evaluating, judging and even comparing them toothers like that.Martin
Thanks for the detailed reply Sonavor.
I will have to find a repair agent near where I live.

Thanks for the reply Martin. Yes, maybe I was being a bit silly as to why the speakers did not sound how I expected them to.
Although in my defence I am neither an Audio, or Speaker expert.
Can anybody suggest where I can take them for repair please?
I am in north Cheshire, and fairly close to both Liverpool and Manchester.
Obviously with each Speaker weighing 22kgs I would drop them off in my car and not send by courier.
The previous owner gave me the original small 4 page booklet that came with the Speakers.
If anyone would like to see it I can scan and upload it for you.
Hy.
Could someone help me to connect beovision 6210 to jack port or USB or another port.
I got 8 pin cable with 6 core wired.
Want to connect to non b&o products
Have a look at www.audioloudspeakers.co.uk.This is company called D.C.Boultons,that specialise in the supply and rebuilding of loudspeakers. If you can remove the faulty bass driver's and send them for assessment, this seems to be the best course of action as with all due respect, you are a novice in the Beoworld?
Refurbished drive units will transform those speakers, you will be pleased with the result.
Make a note of the connections to the drivers,to ensure correct reconnection.
The company are located in Norfolk,so not in your 'hood, but the drivers will be much easier to ship than the whole speakers.
Nick
One company has quoted me almost £200 to re-foam both Woofers. They can do one!
I've found another company that will charge £60... now that's more like it.
I've just used the company in Norfolk to repair the driver in one of my M100's - it's arriving this week sometime and very excited - they seem very good and have standard prices. Well worth getting it done professionally, unless you really know what you're doing.
If my M100's are anything to go by you will be more than happy with the M150's once they are restored.
Thanks Andrew.
It was the company in Norfolk who quoted me £60, so I think i'll give them a try.

Phil
I am in mourning!!!
Words cannot express how mad, upset, and angry I am. I cable tied the Woofers together, face to face. I then bubble-wrapped them, and put extra bubble-wrap in the box around them.
I put a Fragile sticker on all 4 sides of the box, and this is how they arrived at the repair shop!
It looks like there was a Hand Grenade in the box with them!
Ouch - that's dreadful I feel your pain!
If I may offer some thoughts for next time, though, or anyone else shipping drivers like this -
(1) Don't tie them together. This ends up with two big, heavy, magnets that can impact on the frame as the couriers play football with the box, rather than one.
(2) Bubble wrap around them isn't enough - you need lumps of polystyrene or similar to pack solidly round them so they cannot move at all.
Thanks for the packing advice Adam.
I packed them like that as I was told by Audioloudspeakers to do it that way.
With hindsight I wouldn't do it that way again!
How do I find out the value of my Woofers?
I need to know for my insurance claim against the carrier.
Obviously I need to prove their value.
That is appalling. They repaired my M100 woofer and did a good job. The problem you have is that these woofers are no longer available. My MS150s were compared by a firm who restored them to £3000 speakers and that was about 10 years ago if not more. he said they had one of the flattest frequency responses that he had come across - he was so impressed he had put them in his anechoic chamber to test them.
That is terrible - I feel really sorry for you - I still haven't had mine back and they said it would be on its way a couple of weeks ago!
I did once buy a Beolab 1 and that was sent via courier - it arrived with the subwoofer broken - fortunately I got it from one of the resellers and he had never seen anything like it but replaced the subwoofer. Also a pair of S45-2 and one of those didn't work as the magnet slipped in shipping. The couriers and post office just do not take care when shipping.
Despite not being able to get original drivers you might find equivalents out there that are near spec - not ideal but not worth scrapping the speakers if the cabinets and other drivers are good?
Just to add - I found this thread that might help - it's entitled MS150 restoration I think - please don;t give up on them as worth restoring.
