Hi, sorry if I sound like a total dim wit! but I acquired an antique B&O TV (with built in video player) with the remote I needed for my cd player. I've recently decided to use it, and the sky box works fine. I've plugged a DVD player in the back and tried every option on the remote to get it to play but I can't seem to watch DVD's. Can anyone advise me in non technical idiot proof language?! I can't see anywhere that tells me what model it is to look it up, many thanks, Ria

Hi Ria and welcome to Beoworld.
As Chris says, we need to know the TV and remote you have (as B&O made many variants) in order to help you most.
Once an auxilliary piece of equipment is plugged into the TV, you have to tell the TV via the remote what is connected and where in the set-up menu. Once that's done, you should be able to operate them perfectly. As I say, we just need a bit more info - including what DVD player it is.
We can make it technical free for you and guide you through it.
If it is an Avant TV. it was one of the best CRT pictures ever and I'm sure you'll be pleased. Sound is also good, especially if you have any additional B&O Beolab speakers connected.
Dave.
A B&O-tv with a built-in videoplayer - that can only be the (original) Avant.
You will have to configure the A/V port (the scart connection on the back, that you used for the player, to open at one of the commands (buttons) on the remote.
If you could post a picture of the remote, it would be helpfull!
Does it look like the above? And has it a button called 'DVD' on it?
Or is it perhaps the older one called BeoLink 1000.
On the backside of the tv you will have to look for the name of the (for the DVD player used) scart connection = A/V 1 or 2....
When you press 'Menu' on the remote, you will get some options. Go to Connections' (use the up/down arrows). Press 'Go' (the knob in the middle) and navigate (left/right arrows) to the port, you checked on the back. Here (again) you will have some options. One of these is 'DVD' - please choose that by pushing 'Go'.
If you now press 'DVD' on the remote, the TV will open the right port - and you can use the remote of your DVD player to start playback.
Note: if your B&O remote has not got the 'DVD' button, please tell us what it looks like.
I assume, that the reason, why the Sky box 'works fine', is that the used scart connection autodetects the input and turns on the tv to that input right away.
Please do tell, if this helped you!

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Millemissen:A B&O-tv with a built-in videoplayer - that can only be the (original) Avant.
Or the AV9000. Not just the Avant. Same difference for the user to get it up and running though.
Ok!
I forgot that - I must admit it
Thanks to all who have replied. I'm not doing very well so far as I can't even figure out how to load up the photos on here! The TV looks like the one that Chris posted and the remote is the same except some of the wording is different on some of the buttons. It has a DVD button. The DVD player is a make called Technika that I borrowed from the kids as I can't even plug in my HDMI one!
I have plugged it into the scart lead connection in the back of the TV next to the sky one. When I press menu on the remote it comes up with a list like this
1. Timmer record
2. Timer play
3. TV List
4. Setup
5.DVD
If I press DVD nothing happens it just goes back to the TV picture. I've tried setup, then connections and have changed the AV to DVD, the next wording along says Decoder Non V.tp2
Have I got it set up wrong?
I live in near St Neots in Cambridgeshire, but would really rather not have to go to the expense of getting someone out just to set up my DVD player! I don't hardly ever watch TV but it would be nice to watch the occasional movie....
Chris how do I load pictures on here please?! thanks. Ria
I don't have anything apple i'm afraid.
The remote and the tv look like the ones you posted, the remote has slightly different wording on the buttons, I took a picture of it , there's nothing else in the photo but this is what I get when I try to load it.
The maximum file size allowed is 1000kB. Please select a valid file.
I'm wondering if it's the part when I get to 'decoder' that I'm doing wrong? any idea? thanks for your help

Chris Townsend:You've got to tell the machine which connection DVD is being used ie scart 1-2 etc Beovision 7-55 Mk2, Beovision 8-32, Avant RF 28, Beolab 8000, Beolit 12, Beoplay A2, Beocom 2, Beotime, H6, Form 2.

Hi again Ria,
as a Gold member you have access to the user manuals via the 'products' section. The Avant user manual is available here - second down:
http://www.beoworld.org/manuals_view.asp?pid=569
I think page 7 deals with the 'source' option for connecting your DVD player.
The BEO4 remote shown in the manual is slightly different as it has 'AV' where yours has 'DVD".
At the back of the Avant where the Scart leads attach, below each one it states what the socket is allocated as - 'Decoder', 'AV' and 'VTape'. for example It's embossed in the plastic - you need good light to see them. Depending on the Avant type, it may be labelled something different!
So, which Scart socket is the Sky box plugged into and which have you plugged the DVD player into? What do the labels say under them? Then we can take it from there.
We can sort this I'm sure as it's actually not that complicated unless you are new to B&O and then it can look daunting and complicated.
Thank you for your advice
Sure it is a good idea to become a gold member - but in this case/for this purpose it maybe is a bit too much to ask for.
The 'Userguide' can easily be found on the B&O webpage (costumer service).
And if you google for 'B&O Avant Reference book', you will immidiately get some hits.
But I think that Ria is already a gold member.
Oups - she is!
