Hi Sturock,

True the BeoLit12 should have been taken off the market immediately with its Airplay problems - I'm guessing that did the company no favours at all BUT the A8/BeoSound 8 and V1 have been great products in the Play range haven't they. I'd like to see multi room A8's but smaller versions. Like what BOSE have done with the 30/20 range!

But it must be very hard with limited budget and probably a lot of very old skull management. He's had a difficult job for such a young guy!

I agree with MM ass well, bringing out half baked products is a true disaster for a brand. When the BS8 became the best selling product in 2011, they should have released a smaller version to compliment it etc. I hope they will.

But StuRock, how would you of done things differently? I honestly don't think that i'd of done things any differently than what Tue did. The hifi sector seems to be such a small market now. All of my friends either love music or work in radio/music industry and what do we do at each others houses? Sit in the kitchen, drink coffee, chat and take out our iPhones and stream music to their Bluetooth/iPhone docks B&O/Denon/B&W or BOSE and reminisce over music from a nightclubbing era or whatever :)

It's true that older management may seem less enthusiastic about new initiatives, but there is a simple reason for that. They have seen most initiatives tried before by previous generations and their previous failure. Only now and then does an old idea succeed when tried again, and usually it's because a new technology has enabled it: it's not just because some young individual is pushing something.

Older individuals become cynical because they have seen it all before, over and over again. However, they are actually in a better position to recognise what will succeed and what is genuinely new.  Young people tackle problems with enthusiasm, unhindered by the experience of previous failure. What's best for a company? A good mix of young enthusiasts and old experienced heads, not just one or the other.

Too true Vikinger. Mind you, in radio being in your 30s is old skool now (The last post was meant to red 'old skool' NOT 'old skull' damn i hate autocorrect :)  Most of our MDs were 27-28!!! I was an MD at 32 and hated it - not creative and not hands on for me :(

Anyway i hope that Tue stays for the next few years - if he wants to that is!

When you first quoted my answer I misunderstood it the way you calling me an idiot. But after your 2nd posting it became clear that I simply misunderstood you. Guess those mistakes happen as english is not my mother tongue. :)

I think someone should supersede Tue. He doesn't make it right, he's not good for this lovely company as he has proven!

I'll give Tue a B+.  It is an incredibly difficult time for all A/V vendors, and I think Tue has done a reasonable job navigating these treacherous waters.  I'm guessing / hoping that the product problems have more to do with shifting production to Asia than design problems.  Granted, that is not an excuse,  but many companies have struggled with this.  People wanted less expensive tvs, we got them.  I think Wisa was a good move, although maybe more effort should go into promoting them for non-beo sources - but that probably would have upset the dealers. Letting people like Geoff speak publicly definitely helps the brand.  I think the h8s are a home run (the bees knees for those unfamiliar with American baseball) - they are EXACTLY what I have been looking for, but still no A because of supposed drop out issues, and I've been waiting 4 weeks, and was told I will need to wait another 4 to get them in the dark brown color.  When I compare B&O with Tue to the last two Ceos, he's done much better facing far more difficult times - maybe this is faint praise, but I would never take that job in today's environment.

I actually think too many products have been launched lately.. I've heard from B&O salespeople that customers are expecting short lifecycles from B&O products. I think this is the wrong move

Yes, there needs to be stability in products to justify them being part of an installation somebody is going to invest in and keep a while.

But if they don't have new products then how will the company grow? Yes you need existing products and you also need new customers which means it's growing.

Mercedes and most car manufacturers used to live on long product cycles but imagine where they would be today if they still lived that ethos.

I agree with Barry that they need to get hungry.

I would like more products and ones that I would actually use. Paul's A8 mini is a good idea and I would like it with Bang & Olufsen name with WISA and have a few around the house for multiroom or one to act like a 3500 and have in the bathroom.

bang & Olufsen for integration and multi room etc and BeoPlay for stand alone.

Imagine a BMW with only a 3, 5 and 7 series. They'd be dead today.

B&O need to deliver differentiated and luxury experiences that fill all the relevant rooms and parts of our lives with relevant products. Their problem has been finding the investment, resources whilst taking out the unnecessary cost. This is a growth strategy.

Great moves with the Speakers, Recent Play and Avant family. Moment is under developed and Californian software house should have done a much better job. Overall though they've done a pretty good job. Takes big money to play the big game today.

Perhaps B&O has an investment partner from another sector ?

Good if it was not another audiovisual company to dilute the brand into a rebadged premium competitor for themselves ..

Yes... ...but why would you invest from "other sector" if you can't make (over)profit fast (in today's world)?

............and cellphones, tablets, semiconductors, hardrives, LCD's, optical drives, shipbuilding, domestic appliances, glass making .................. the list goes on!

The point being that they have a vast technological resource to bring to the party should they even consider a purchase or even investment. All it needs is someone at the helm with vision to bring everything together into the right product design for the right market segment, - if done correctly and sympathetically there is no reason why it couldn't be a very positive move for the B&O brand and al least the equal if not the better of a lot of other "potential" buyers/partners!

Ban boring signatures!

Wasn't it Steve Jobs that famously said that he had utmost respect for HP over any other Silicone Valley company. 

Can't wait to find out what the announcement is... c'mon :-)

According to danish newspapers:

125 employees where of 68 in Denmark (predominantly in Struer)  will lose their jobs within the AV-division. This is part of a program that will save B&O 100 million DKK per year. 

Tue comments that they are very early in a process where they look at options to partner with someone. He emphasize that B&O is driving this process.

In the second quarter of 2014/2015, the AV division turnover was 429 million DKK. That is lower than the same quarter the year before (464 Million DKK) 

In total B&O will present a revenue of 800 million DKK for the third quarter (to be presented April 16). That is an increase of 19% compared to the same period the year before.

That's Silicon Valley, Silicone Valley is farther south, in LA where plastic surgeons are more common than GPs. Big Smile
