Hi everyone

Am sat at home trying out a pair of 18's to replace or pair with our 8000's. To a novice the sound is far fuller(bassier to an ignoramus like me!) and the the tone is noticeably sharper. I always knew placing the speakers in the 8000 tube was never going to make the best sonic sense and maybe the sound reflected that a little. The 18's sound like serious uncompromising speakers, they might even impress our audiophile family "acquaintance" although I wouldn't guarantee it.

I'm listening to this at the moment with the 7-6 turned off(playing through Tidal at 1411 mbps) and with the rest of the album to go, the housework and inevitable dog walk are on temporary hold.

I'll definitely buy these, get another pair when we move and wall mount them, and then a 19 maybe! Cheers Geoff and his teamYes - thumbs up

The 18's do have a bit of wow about them with the sound fuller and more base....A sort of did not think they do/sound like that when you fist hear Big Smile

I thought the 18's were definitely an improvement over the 8000's. I'm not sure i really got on with my 8000's tbh..

Can anyone remember the UK retail price with black frets?

They are around £4300 list price on floor stands with black frets.

I bought a pair with oak frets 6 months ago. They are fabulous.

ThanksErm..

The ones I've got as a demo, has a left one with a really annoying hiss/hum from the tweeter. The installer noticed it, changed the connectors but thought it was the Powerlink cable. I've found a spare cable, and also put it in a different socket on the TV, to no avail.

Any ideas?

Perhaps swap the speakers (left for right) and see if the fault is with the speaker or is still on the left side. Mine work perfectly but are wireless. I have the wireless transmitter connected to a BS5/BM5.

Ok I've done that, swapped the speakers around, changed the Powerlink cables and have changed the connection on the back of the 7-55. But still an electrical buzzing/humming!!!

Is anybody else running Beolab 18's from a Beovision 7/Beosystem 3 and doing so with Powerlink cables?

I am surprised the installer did not have a solution, they are usually on the ball.

I suppose you are not using a older version of the PL cable?

I've tried two cables, and surely if that was the problem then the noise would have been replicated when I swapped the speaker around. Only comes out of the left side.

The installer did notice it on installation, alas I wasn't here but he did think it probably was the cable which is why I swapped them over. Unfortunately he didn't have a spare. Their work is always first class.

You may already have done this but just in case..........

Having switched the speakers you know the right hand cabe is faultless. Try that one on the left. If you still have the noise on the left it cannot be the cable. We proved earlier that the speaker was fine. So that would mean the issue is with the tv or its settings..

All sorted now, turned out to be the cables. Even if one doesn't work, it won't necessarily effect that speaker. Cheers everyoneYes - thumbs up
