There's a very nice CDX for sale that I am interested in rescuing. The unit powers up but the cd laser / transport is unresponsive.  Which leads me to my question, are there parts still avail to restore this beauty to functioning again?

I don't know about parts availability but a lot of problems are due to cracked solder joints.  Maybe no parts are actually needed.  The laser mechanisms on these are supposedly 'bullet proof' according to some.

Dave, thank you for your response. I found an informative previous post on the CDX soldering joints. I'm going to go ahead and buy the unit, its worth an attempt to save the unit.  Regards, Robert

Always worth it as the CDX and CDX2 are wonderful players.  Let us know how you get on.

Yes once back in shape they sound wonderful.

I have yet to hear about laser faults in CDX but cracked solder joins and the like is more to expect. Also the hinges for the lid can break but there is a fix for that here on this forum.

My CDX still plays but it was a basket case with a broken left hinge and electronics to look after back in 2008. Thanks to the connections on Beoworld it got serviced and 100% enjoyable again.

I have a CDX with a broken left lid hinge, can anyone point me towards the fix for this?

It was fine, but suddenly snapped around the pin it locates on.

The known left hinge repair thread is on the archived forum by Chris (medogsfat) and is here:

Thanks Dave,

Is there a manual that shows how to remove and put back, or is it a case of examine and record as you disassemble?

The CDX service manual is available to all silver and gold members in the 'Products' section.
