Dear members,
is it possible to use a Beocord type 4705 in combination with a Beomaster 7000? Does such a combination make sense?

Hi Kai,
it may make sense if you need a tape player and don't have a Beocord 7000. The Beocord 5000 (Type 4705) only has a 5 pin DIN output so you won't be able to Datalink it - i.e. operate it via remote. But, I don't see why you can't use it.
The Beocord 5000 was ahead of it's time but overcomplicated and prone to damage tapes etc as can be seen from previous posts. Soundwise it is excellent though being ahead of the next generation with 'nought-in' tape mechanisms.
If you have one that operates as it should, you're very lucky! I've got two and neither do.
I'm sure if anyone knows of any compatibility issues they will let you know.

It will play back fine but I am pretty sure the 5000 4705 records at DIN level, not Line. So it won't record properly, even in the unlikely event it is working properly!
My 4715 works when it wants to!

Thanks for the answers. I have one that I have tested with a cassette but I haven't listened to it. So far, all functions seem to work. All lights are on and it also does not chew tapes. In fact, it's whisper silent. Is it a better tape deck soundwise than the Beocord 7000 by the way? How does it compare to the best B&O tapedecks soundwise? Greetings, Kai
It is a very good tape deck (when it works) but as Peter mentioned they are not at all reliable on the whole. That has been my experience too.
The Beocord 7000 is essentially the same deck as the 6500/5500. For you I think it would be better. You could stack it with the rest of the components, they are pretty reliable and look and sound pretty good too.

The 7000 is better - it has HX-Pro so you can use cheaper tape with excellent results. You can also use Dolby C if that floats your boat (I never use any noise reduction)
The only 'problem' with the 7000 is the auto-reverse as this compromises the heads slightly. Having said that, I use a 5500 and find it as good as any tape machine. I did have a 9000 and an 8004 and find the 5500 more convenient and it makes good recordings.
Your 5000 may be working now, but it is just waiting for you to put in your favourite tape!!
