This is probably the best $80 I ever spent, but I bought this untested with the cassette deck definitely not working.  I had posted here a few weeks ago with questions about speaker connections and a belt for the cassette deck.  Now, two weeks later, I have rounded up the requisite connections and hooked up some speakers in a well lighted room to try and see what sounds would come out!

The phonograph sounds great.  I did a quick hookup with my vintage McIntosh speakers and am very pleased.  Now the plan is to hook it up with the pair of Beovox S75s and S45s.  The radio works perfectly.  I believe I will be able to hook up my Sonos system to it also.

Thanks for the directions on the speaker hookups and connectors.  Now I have a question about the cassette deck.  Neither capstan moves, and attempts to play it result in a quick turn off.  I suspect a broken belt.  Can anyone direct me to directions for removing the cassette deck and replacing the belt?

Thanks for all your help and interest.  Please don't take my post as gloating, as I am just happy the gamble paid off.  They don't always, as I well know.  The ease of use makes playing records fun again.

One other question:  the speakers I propose using, the s75s and s45s, are lacking in bass.  How would I hook up a subwoofer to such a system?  Or is that a bad idea?

Hello Joe,

low bass? Did you find the loudness switch? I must admit, the 7700 really sounds nice.

At the bottom there are short instructions how to open the cabinet . The cassette-deck is easy to get out then. The mechanism is the same as in the 6000, 8000 ,... machines so it's easy to get spare parts. Sometimes, you need to change the idler wheel, if fast-forward or rewind is stopping.

Martin (Dillen on site) can get you replacement belts. I am surprised you find S75s are lacking in bass - I always found they were if anything a bit overblown with bass that was less well controlled - don't bother with a Cona with either of these speakers as it won't go any lower. Check the bass units are working first - maybe look at the crossovers though normally it is the treble that suffers if they are getting tired.

I am very pleased you have got such a bargain; the 7700 is a superb machine - probably the best record based music centre ever made.
