Hi

I just aquired a Bluetooth receiver which has  Toslink (optical) vs. jack audio output. I have hooked up to my Beomaster 1200 so I can stream music via my phone. The Bluetooth receiver has a Bluetooth version 4.0 and Apt-X.

What connection is best Toslink (optical) vs. jack audio for sound quality? is one superior to the other?

All the best,

Jeppe

Hi Jeppe,

with the 1200 you have no choice - since it has only analog (DIN) in.

If you wanted to use the optical-out of the BT receiver, you would need an external digital to analog converter (DAC).

Depending on how good this is, it might be better than the one, that is already built in to the BT receiver.

But these differences may be subtle and maybe minor in your setup - there are many things, that has an influence on the SQ in a setup: speakers, placement in the room, the room itself, quality of the listening source, which device you are streaming from.....

I would suggest, that you start out with the analog output of the BT receiver.

If you are pleased with that, don't worry and enjoy what you hear.

If not, you should consider, that bluetooth audio (even with Apt:X as codecs) never can be as good as, what is streamed or simply played back lossless or uncompressed.

What do you want to stream?

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Hi MM

Tanks! that gave me an understanding of the differences. I just want to make sure, that I get the most out of my current set :)

I basically want to stream digital music from min mac and my android phone (both thought Spotify). At some point I might start prioritising FLAC formats, but for now it would be compressed from fx Spotify.
