I thought they'd had one in January? WOW, this must be the ONLY electrical company that puts its prices up!

I got the email from a local dealer stating:

From the 1st May 2015 Bang & Olufsen will be issuing a price riseon various products across the range. If you are thinking of making a Bang & Olufsen purchase then please do so before the 1st May 2015to avoid the higher prices from that date onwards.

I was looking at purchasing a BV11, aV1 and the moment as had managed to save money on my extension, but if they are putting up prices there is no way I will convince the wife, so it looks like I will be going with Loewe 4k TVs instead (cheaper than a divorce and half the price of the BV), it's a shame but unfortunately sometimes in life there has to be some compromise, and I the Loewe will stream TV from one set to the other without the need for a hdmi matrix.

Badger (& Mrs Badger) why not look at their financing deal ?

Or even discuss THEIR dilemma (it's actually not just yours) ... No sale versus A sale with a bit of a sweetener ?

I'm intrigued by the thought process or need as they are in the process of selling the auto division, sales are up their Play brand is looking successful and economically most of Europe is enjoying the benefits of low fuel costs....

I've heard they are actively looking for a buyer. by selling off the specialized, high value divisions, their purchase cost comes down, and maybe a specialist AV player, like Sonos or others will consider it.

Nor Ferrari whereby they say no matter the cost they want to create exclusivity. They want to limit supply to create demand by limiting supply that will create long waiting lists. Apparently that makes a product more exclusive.

And what about if you want yours quicker does that mean you pay more ?

Ferrari play a clever game, continually adjust production numbers to compliment demand which protects depreciation and used values with an icing of a 7 year warranty. I can see a watch company getting away with this attitude but a dangerous game when there is such stiff competition.

Even Ferrari as finantial problems.

So the new 8 cylinders model (488) cost the same price than the "old" one (458).

There was a report which analysed Ferrari balanc sheets and costed a 458 at 45000 euros per unit.

My dealer has confirmed that the Avant will have price rise again ( up from the last one late last year).

No word about rises on the speakers

I received an email overnight

"B&O televisions will be adjusted up by 8% in the next few days, whilst the speakers will remain at the same pricing.

The adjustment date has been set for 27th April, "

When they did their much needed reduction maybe they shouldn't have reduced it by so much ? I'm happy they did but now two price adjustments since launch is silly.

Maybe B&O is selling so many Avants, a price increase was needed to improve profits.  Big Smile

Hopefully its not the usual Aussie price premium thing ie Australia only

On another note, I wouldn't mind the price rise if that means B&O will bring in the HDR and quantum dots to the panel. I saw the 2015 Samsung 9 series and have to say I will finally be happy to settle for LCD LED of that caliber instead of waiting for OLED. It is definitely better than last years versions.

I've got to admit, after walking around one of local electrical superstores and seeing the latest designs and technology, my 7-55 looks like a dinosaur.

Things are moving so quickly it must be maddening for Struer. Quantum dot, UHD OLED, HDR.....[:\'(]

The price increase is to adjust for the USD exchange rate (for items bought by B&O). So the screen series will go up, but the parts made in DK (the stand) will not increase in price.

A compensating measure will be the option to replace the aluminum rear covers on the Avant series with covers made from steel, but I do not know how this will affect the price - or if they even will continue to advertise the option of the aluminum covers anymore.

Yes visual display technology is moving so fast and with such significant differences it makes investing large amount on a purchase quite difficult.

I don't know about everyone else but I can't afford to drop AUD35k every few years when something significantly better comes around (or standard change). I wonder if B&O will try a modular approach to its TV where you can pay for upgrading the brains circuits or heck even the panel without throwing away the rest. I am never sure what is the B&O policy on upgrades. If they did I know I'd be definitely keen on getting their TVs.

Sort of like the Beovision 9, where the Beosystem 3 "plugged in" to the back of the panel.

I would imagine that would be an amazing feat for a company to design the brains and panels to be modular like that. To allow the customer to mix and match, and eventually upgrade. Sound simple, but likely very complicated to implement.

I'm with you, with the cost of B&O televisions, even though relatively speaking, for what you get, they might be considered "reasonable" in some circles, they're still far more expensive than the rest of the market. It used to be the case that you could live for a decade or more with a B&O television and know that you still had the rolls royce of TV's with the best established tech on the market. As was the case with the David Lewis Avant.

The environment is just so very different now, fast paced and disposability in mind.

I'm so very happy with my BV11 even though it isn't 4K. I just hope that in 6-7 years 4K (or other technologies) hasn't made my current purchase regrettable, I know my wife wouldn't forgive another significant expenditure to replace this one. Especially here in the US where dealers don't take trade-ins as much as is the case in Europe.

'Sort of like the Beovision 9, where the Beosystem 3 "plugged in" to the back of the panel.'

What if the 'improvement (or the changes) refers to both display and engine (BSys)??

'...visual display technology is moving so fast and with such significant differences...'

I guess - from a consumer point of view - it would be wiser to look at the improvements, we get for our every day life with a tv - and not so much at what we are told from the manufacturers, who want to sell us a new tv every second year.

Question is: when - and how - do we really notice an improvement using our gear in real life?

I mentioned in another thread that B&O should focus on motorised stands with soundbars, onto which you could put any manufacturer's TV panel.

The PUC module could be in the soundbar controlling the TV rather than the other way around. Result would be that B&O no longer have to worry about changing TV standards other than control codes.

As an end user, I have already had real benefits from some of these 'latest gadgets'. We have an OLED TV and its definitely far better than our previous TV, the sheer improvement in picture/colour has definitely enhanced our enjoyment of watching movies and TV show

We even benefited from having a smart TV. Yes it is a low hanging fruit, but being able to watch streaming content without pressing more buttons to turn on other devices is definitely a real bonus for us - it would be when you have a kid heckling for their show Big Smile

Even watching content(upscale/native) on 70+ inch 4K TV has had a measure improvement to our enjoyment of the TV.

I sincerely  doubt HDR and wider colour gamut wouldn't be beneficial to the end users. These improvements aren't gadgets.

I remember when 1080p was coming in, many reviewers, commentators questioned its relevance (SD was good enough etc). I doubt anyone would say that now.

When I'm asked to pay a significant premium (50% to 100%), i expect my TV to exceed its current competitors and match at least the mid ranged TVs over the next three years. And that's definitely the case for the price of a small car.

Graham I wholeheartedly agree with you, build on B&O strengths and magic, build a motorized soundbar display platform with PUC unit to accommodate upgradeable panel.Samsung currently does the upgradeable modular design for the brains of their higher end TVs. The Red video cameras are great examples of modular upgradeable device -you can virtually upgrade most of the major components

I noticed that the webshop now sells the beoplay A2 for EUR 399, while it used to be EUR 349.

This is a 14% price increase. Is this correct? Any other products following?

...and maybe they should provide different sizes of plywood, magnetic painted and different types of frames.

Then it would be easy to mount one of the coming 'wallpaper-displays' - and to have a 'real' B&O-look.
