Beocentre 9000 linked to beolink 3500

Hi, I am a very happy user of a mint Beocentre 9000 with CX100 speakers. However my wife would like to have the option of music in the kitchen. What are the logistics of linking to a Beolab 3500.

I have read the manual and it appears possible but I am confused over the various link systems ML MCL. I have been told by a friend i will need a converter box.

Any guidance would be appreciated especially from someone who had done this back in the day.
