The sheer amount of spam posts today has been pretty unbelievable!

It seems that this is getting worse.

They've been removed once already but have reappeared.  A bad attack today which I know annoys Lee and the mocerators who will be on top of it.

Dave.

Yes, we are aware of this heavy korean advertizing.
Normally we don't get much spam but this is a heavy attack so we do ask for a little patience and understanding, while we
do our very best to clean up and fight it.

We're all busy behind the scenes removing, deleting and banning - but as it's in Korean the spam filters need to be set with Korean words (or symbols!)

It's being dealt with, but yes - it's very annoying.

Of course! Frustrating and annoying for us all but I'm sure even more frustrating for you moderators who have to actually deal with this!

Thanks for your work though!

I can confirm that I have block via the server firewall all posts from Korea connected via ISP Onse Telecom where most post were coming from.

Did a former lunatic member suddenly move east? What's WE been up to lately too? Unsure

Jeff please don't degrade other people like that. You wouldn't like it if people insulted you and thought bad thoughts about you would you? As I mentioned before, there was A LOT of bullying on this site and it must stop immediately. It is very very bad for BANG&OLUFSEN's image and does nothing to remove the stuffy image of the brand that even yesterday newspaper mentioned!

If you can't say anything nice about a person, then seriously shut up!

My sense of humor would bounce upward if Keith could hack into the server and seriously damage it.

That would be satisfying wouldn't it? Unfortunately these types just about never do things like this directly from their machines or servers, but bounce them and use IP spoofing and zombie machines so that a counter attack usually just makes life for the other victims on the way even more difficult. It's incredibly frustrating.

I agree. This is happening often enough and with such tenacity that unless it's hitting everyone using the same hosting service and servers it looks to be deliberately targeted, hence the comment about past members who may have an ax to grind.

I can confirm that we were targeted from different IP addresses via different ISP's mostly in Korea, but one was from Finland, so I expect there was a BOT at work where many PC's or servers were infected and were acting as a message relay service.

I intend in the future to add some code to the registration section to help limited the chances of this occurring in the future.

Beoworld was certainly targeted because they went through the registration process.

Interesting, thanks Keith.

What kind of tools can be used to stop this in terms of the registration process? Is there already some sort of CAPTCHA system in place?

I imagine it cannot be completed eliminated but I guess at least reducing it would be better!

Then that goes back to my earlier statement about disgruntled former members. I would never underestimate the kind of response some internet sociopaths have to being banned or slapped down. The need for revenge over something so trivial just boggles the mind of more normal and well adjusted people. It's an online forum people, get over it! Then again, since Beoworld is linked with Lee's business perhaps that might be a fruitful line of inquiry.

Know anyone in Finland Beoworld has "insulted" per chance?

In the end though it's close to impossible to track this back to a person(s) unless they were very clumsy or you have a lot more time and skill to throw at it than most do, sadly.

So they manually go through the trouble of creating and activating an account, then use that account to have spam bots generate posts?
You may have to consider adding something like Captcha to the login. Kind of a pain but not as painful as the spam postings.
