Hi everyone,
I'm new in the B&O world and I've already got a question!
My grandmother gave me her old B&O installation because they have replaced it with something more modern and it was just sitting on the shelve there. It's a BeoMaster1000 (with black keys), 2 BeoVox2600 and 2 BeoVox2500 Cubes.
Afaik the speakers have always been connected to speaker output 1, and the tweeters to output 2. But after reading a bit on the net it seems that the Cubes were never meant to be connected to the output directly. Should I place something in between or should I just disconnect them on higher volumes? I found a thread where this was discussed but is was for another amplifier and I'm not sure if it's the same.
I'm very excited about my new setup, and can't wait to start using it once I know I'm not ruining it! All speakers are working great except one BV2600 so I will be replacing capacitors in these, hopefully this solves that issue as well!

Hi Laurent, and bienvenue !
Please NEVER connect the cubes to the amp, even for testing purposes!
They MUST be plugged at the back of the Beovox 2600 speakers, no matter what.
There is a fair chance of destroying them if you even try to plug them to the amp, and push up the volume!
After all these years you will need to replace the capacitors inside the Cubes and '2600. We can guide you if you need to be advised.

Thanks for the fast reply! The capacitors for the 2600 are already ordered and I've found out how to open the speaker so that's fine. I could use some help for the 2500 though. How can I open these? And how should I connect them to the amp since the 2600 has no connector for the 2500.
For now I only connected the cubes to the amp to test them on a very low volume so they should be fine. I even believe my grandmother always used them like that but it's hard to believe a B&O dealer sold it like that back then.
Oh yes, 2600, not 2400 !
You will have to make an adaptor, a special "box".
Look here for the capacitor, and there for the adaptor by Frede.

Yes. Do publish some pictures once you're done - or even right now, so that we can behold your setup!
But how did your grandparents connect the Cubes to their system then?
I believe they always connected the Cubes to the 2nd speaker output, which would be strange but they survived somehow.
Of course I want to post some pictures of my setup!

It deserves some more place on my desk but for now there's none. That's coming though!
The biggest concern (in terms of looks) is the dust cover on the Dual that's broken and missing some pieces but I'm planning on making one myself with some plexiglass.
I'd love to get a BeoGram to complete the setup... Someday!
Just one quick extra question, what's the meaning of the symbol circled in red?
Don't bother, it's nothing.
It is something - it's a virtual test point for the simulation software and you can safely just ignore it

Allright, I have ordered all components including those for the adapter box, the capacitors should be here soon, the rest could take some more time but until then I should be able to enjoy the BV2600's alone.The only problem left was which power rating should the resistor for the adapter box be? So I did an online simulation and it said 10W would still burn...
Just to explain my thoughts, maybe the error is in there. The speakers are rated at a power (P) of 30W and have an impedance (R) of 4 Ohm, so the maximum voltage (V) should be, according to P = (V^2)/R, 11V (which seems a lot to me).
With this information I made an online simulation which showed the circuit would burn. According to the simulator I would need a resistor able to handle more than 35W??
And as a reference, I made the original circuit of the BV2600 as well, with all original components, and it would also burn, so I believe I made a mistake in my reasoning somewhere
Do not worry, it won't burn or even get anywhere near hot!
To put it simply, the series low value capacitor will greatly reduce the electric energy that will be applied to the HF units. No worries here!

The cubes connect at the back of the Bevox 2600.
Sold to make space for Beolab 5000/Beomaster 5000.Should have kept the Beovox cubes....but this was just at the early stage of the beovirus ;-)

Are you sure your Cubes were attached to the BV2600's? Because mine have no connectors on the back. Or were they attached to the BeoMaster?
Or maybe there were 2 different BV2600 models, but I can't find anything about that.
