Hello all,
Recently been investigating the purchase of a BeoPlay S8 system.
The opportunity just presented itself to purchase a BeoSound 2300 with Beo4 + a pair of BeoLab 6000 loudspeakers for the same price.
What considerations would keep me from purchasing the latter outfit?
Thank you!!
If you want to play CD's and a radio then the 2300 will suit. However, these are old units now and the sound performance of the S8 will be much better - especially bass. You can stream to both but the S8 is new, better tech and I'd have thought a much better deal. Just look at the glowing reviews for the S8.
The consideratiuon you need to make is what do you want the sound system for? Looks, sliding doors, CD, tuner, purely streaming?
I'd go for the S8.
Dave.
Hi John,
How (to what) are you going to connect the S8 set?
Do consider, that you choose between a new solution and and old, used solution!

There is a tv - and there is a BV
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
Hi all,
Thank you for the input thus far. In being fairly new to B & O products, my thought process was that while older, maybe the 2300 + 6000s will produce better sound? Large drivers + PowerLink connection, expandability, etc vs limiting myself with the BeoPlay system that can only accom the 2 speakers + sub, with a 3.5 AUX input? The primary application of both solutions will be through connection to an Apple TV or AirPort Express. Wish B&O supported Toslink, as it looks like my only option is 3.5 mm if I'm not mistaken?
But if the BeoPlay S8 has substantially better technology, I will consider it more strongly against the older. I just thought older but more powerful vs young, sleek, and less powerful.
John: I just thought older but more powerful vs young, sleek, and less powerful.
I just thought older but more powerful vs young, sleek, and less powerful.
I am not sure that would be the right way to compare theses two solutions.
The S8-combo surely is powerfull!
As for the connection - with an ATV/APE (and presumeably an iDevice) as the source - you would have to use an Aux input in both cases.
I asked the question of, what you want to connect, because of tthe differences of the two solutions.
With the S8 you have a set of speakers - with the BS2300/BL6000 you have speakers and a pre-pro, which makes it easier (and better) to control the volumen of the connected speakers.
Ever considered using the BS2300 (and the APE) with the S8 as speakers?
Or - since you mentioned the ATV - is there a tv of some kind in the game too?
