I have a 1998 9300.  I just took it out of a 10-year storage.  I had only used the tape player for no more than 1-2 hours before storage.

I just tried many tapes on the 9300.  The left spin moves, but the right one doesn't (so the tape unit plays for about 1-2 sec; forward and rewind don't work either).  The right spin won't move even if I use fingers to turn it?

Does anyone know why and what can be done?.  Right spin gets stuck after a long period of storage?  The tape mechanism should be perfect since I had hardly ever played tapes.

Probably needs new belts, try member Dillen here.

I suggest that the lubrication in the tape drive spindles has dried out.

In the centre of the tape drive spindles, is there a small cross headed set screw OR a fibre washer?

If you have the latter then I know exactly what to do!

Which spindles are you referring to?   With the tape door open, I see only two spindles, one  left of the tape head and one right of the head.  I don't  see any screw or fibre washer between them, but there a black-color piece sticking out to the right of the left spindle.

They wind the tape up, teeth around them and fit into the big holes in the cassette!

I know what you mean now.  The top of the two spindles is a hard plastic cap (in chocolate color not black) with a very, very small cross head (I had to feel it very my fingers).

Now what should I do?  What lubricant to use?  WD40?

Don't put WD40 anywhere near it!!!! It's horrible stuff and should never be used near plastic. Only place its good for is door hinges and bike chains, and even then you can find much better lubricants.

Never WD40!

First get new belt set from dillen.

The originals may have deteriorated into a black sticky mess which will need cleaning off.

You first said lubrication and now say new belt.  Is the lubrication idea wrong?

How easy or difficult is it to open the unit?  Have you done it yourself?

Thanks!

Belts of this age always need replacing as they turn to a black goo substance over time and storage.  Having sat for so long, they have probably 'bonded' to the pulleys they are against.  It will need to be cleaned and have new belts - it's always the first step.

The lubrication will also be needed as suggested - but never, ever use WD40.  It's a water dispersant (WD) and actually causes corrosion over time.  Sewing machine oil or liquid bearings are quite good to use however.

The unit is easy to open into the service position - especially if you read the service manual.  Service manuals are available for Silver and Gold members.

Dave.

And when you open it, be carefully not to drop glass panels, as their glue might be detorated as well.
Lubrication is made to some small spots of mech, spray is not good for that. I usually take small amount (spray)oil to can and spread it with small stick.

They fitted two types of cassette mechanism into these Beocenters. One is easy to fix  the other type is more difficult.

The easy to fix mechanism has one long belt, which you may not need to replace and will only require a couple of drops of grease on the tape wind/rewind spindles to fix.

Unfortunately, you have the more difficult to fix mechanism which will almost certainly need a new 3 belt set from dillen, plus a good deal of manual dexterity and knowhow to fix.

Yes, I have done it myself many times, but  with limited success on the three belt mechanisms. I suggest that you find yourself an expert on this particular mechanism and engage his help.

To connect to an external CD player, should I use Tape 2 or Aux?

Either is fine. You could also use phono as its line level not phono level.
