Hi. I recently purchased a restored Beogram 5005 with a MMC4 cartridge. Everything has been going great and I am really pleased that I bought it. However, I am having issues with some of the new vinyl being released. Some are so thick that they make contact with the stylus in the raised position. Any suggestions to overcome this apart from buying thinner records?

I have some 180g vinyl and they are not that much thicker than standard.

The vinyl is 180 gram. I have the same issue with a thin slip mat. I guess I can only try lowering the tracking force and avoid buying the heavier vinyl.
I did ask the guy who restored it. Said was the arm is the correct height as listed by B & O.
I must have restored 50-100 Beograms by now, possibly more. I have never seen this issue and none of my clients have complained!
My test record is a 180g version of Brothers In Arms
Your deck is definitely not set up as per the service manual spec.
I agree with Graham.
None of my many decks has a problem with 180g or 220g vinyl. Re-check the set-up and adjust as suggested.

Yes that could well be the case. I noticed with a couple of new records that on one side there is a better gap between record and stylus. But on the flip side there is very little. Must be the hole size and how the record is pressed. Also, if the vinyl has a very slight buckle that also has an impact.
I am less than impressed with the quality of some of the new records I am buying. Particularly, when I pay nearly $50 Australia dollars for some albums.

Have never seen a 5005 in the flesh, but is it possible to lower the platter?
chartz:When I said I had a similar issue, that is because I've found that some recent LPs have a centre hole that is a bit too small
This issue was discussed before. I remember posting a photo of the file I purchased to ream the hole a bit.
I have not encountered this particular problem in over a year.
Hi. I was thinking about what Lee said about whether one of the carriage rails could have come away from its clips on my Beogram 5005? It did travel quite a distance from USA to Australia. It was very well packed and the platter was locked down by the transport screws. I've taken a photo of a white part near the platter that I have circled. Should the end of this white part be sitting there or should it be inside the clip?
I also notice that the data link pins from the turntable plug have been taken out. Any ideas where I might source them from?
