I've just set up Apple TV on my Beovision 7 TV.
I've got a picture fine and I've followed all the instructions from an early discussion on this forum. http://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/42038.aspx
The Apple TV audio signal is being converted through a DAC converter using digital audio optical cable. As far as I can tell, I have done everything as explained in the previous forum.
The only thing I can't find is how to change the dolby setting on the TV to be PCM. I've tried to find it on the menu settings but nothing seems to come up.
it would be great if I could sort this out and hopefully get the sound working alongside the image with the Apple TV.
Thanks

This TV has a DVI input so I have a HDMI to DVI cable and and an optical converter to convert the digital sound to analogue which is plugged into the L and R audio connectors in AV4 as per the previous advice on the last forum.
The issue now is the audio needs to be set to PCM as the converter cannot play Dolby sound. So I need to find the option in the menu to switch the Dolby sound to PCM
I've managed to access the Customer Service Menu on the TV. It appears the only option on the sound is the either have the AVC on or off. There is nothing regarding the PCM.
I'm not really sure what to do next regarding this? Any suggestions?

Hi,
since you are using a DAC and feed that analogue signal into the BV7 you have to disable Dolby within Apple TV.Just go to Settings -> Audio & Video -> Dolby Digital -> OFF
BR,BeoMotion.
Depending on your setup a digital connection would give you better sound experience.Instead of a DAC you would then connect a optical to coax S/PDIF converter between your ATV and the digital-audio-in of your BV7.This requires that your BV7 is fitted with the latest DSM SW (3.01). If this is not the case the DAC variant is the much cheaper option.
Thanks for the advice. Forgive my ignorance. Currently I have a converter. I am running an optical audio cable from the Apple TV into a coax input on the converter. On the output side I am running a L/R cable into the L/R connectors on the AV4 on the TV. Where do I find the SPDIF sound input on the BV7?
Raeuber:If you want to have digital sound from ATV on BV7 you need a digital optical to digital coaxial sound converter. You must connect the one (not two for analogue) cinch cable from converter to SPDIF sound input of BV7. Then you'll get digital sound (PCM and Dolby Digital). Regards Räuber

As I have already written the TV needs to be on DSM 3.01. Otherwise there will be no sound at all. This SW cannot be updated with flashing but requires an newer DSM IC (and a recent TV SW, too)To change this IC the TV needs to be disassembled. To gain access to this modul you have to remove a large steel frame hold by many screws.
You can see the SW version in customer service menu.
My BV7 is DSM SW 2.7 I'm not aware if there is a digital audio in on my TV. If there is, do you know where I would find it? Also, the TV is set up to a Beolab 7.1 speaker which I plan to play the sound through from the TV.
maxwellmember:Where do I find the SPDIF sound input on the BV7?
There are 4 coax SPDIF inputs near the DVI connector. Please check your DSM SW before. If ou are not on 3.01 it won't work.
maxwellmember:I am running an optical audio cable from the Apple TV into a coax input on the converter.
How is this possible? Are you using 2 converters? Optical to coax and coax to analogue?

Ok, with SW 2.7 and Apple TV you really have to use the analogue converter.I think at least every BV7-40 MK1/2 had those 4 SPDIF inputs. I am not sure about BV7-32 without cinema modul...Those SPDIF inputs are working with a lot of devices even with SW 2.7. There are only difficulties with Apple TV which requires a newer SW.
Thanks for all your help. It's really helpful. According the the Status Info this TV is as follows
AP SW 7.7
IOP SW 22.0
M2 SW 7.74
STAT DISP SW 1.0
STB TABLE 3.8
PROJ TABLE 1.0
DSM SW 2.7
I'd be really grateful to find a way to modify the TV so that I can get sound from it
Currently I am running the digital audio optical from the optical audio of the Apple TV into the coaxial input of this DAC

Then I'm running ordinary L/R audio jacks from the output of the DAC into the L/R audio of the AV4 on the BV7

I think you mean that you are running the optical audio cable from your Apple TV into the optical audio input (toslink) of your converter? The optical and coaxial SPDIF cables are not compatible...

Since you are on DSM 2.7 this is the only possibility. If you only have a 7-1 connected this should be totally okay.Just make sure that everything is set up correctly in TV connection setup menu.
The cable from the Apple TV is going into the Coaxial input on the converter, not the optical. It can be put in the optical instead but all the other forums I read said put it into the coaxial (there is an adapter that allows it to fit).
Then the issue is on the set up menu on the TV there is no option for PCM. The only audio options on this version are for AVC to be either "on" or "off"

Sorry, but I think you are confusing something. You have to connect a toslink (e.g. LINK) cable between your Apple TV optical output to your converter optical input. On the other side of your converter there is an analogue audio output. This one you connect to your TV.Since it is an analogue signal you don't need to touch the PCM setting of your TV. The PCM setting is only important if you connect your ATV digitally to your TV and you have the matching DSM SW.
Thanks. I've tried it now in both the coaxial and the optical input on the DAC and there's no sound with either!!
Please make sure that you have disabled Dolby Digital in Apple TV settings.
Follow the guide of the DAC to set it up for proper toslink to analogue audio conversation.
Check that in TV connection menu the AV4 source is configured the right way - S/PDIF-NONE / HDTV-DVI
Connect Apple TV to DVI and Analog chinch from the converter to AV4 analog audio in.
This should give you sound. If not check the converter. You could try to connect it to e.g. the AUX-IN of a music system or something else and check that you can here the sound from Apple TV.
Dolby Digital is disbled on Apple TV set up
DAC says run through coaxial input from STB
Apple TV is plugged into DVI on AV4 and the audio is in the L/R inputs on AV4
On my TV settings I have the following
Source - STB(DTV)
Audio Socket - None
IR Socket - None
HDTV - DVI-I
maxwellmember:DAC says run through coaxial input from STB
I really don't know how you are doing this. Apple TV only has optical toslink output. This is mechanical incompatible to coaxial spdif. There are no "mechanical" adapters available since coaxial is electrical and toslink is optical...
You really have to connect your Apple TV via a toslink cable to the optical toslink input of your DAC. In the link you have posted I can see a little switch for selecting the input source. Make sure that you choose the right position for the optical input.I can also see that this device has a headphone output. Try plugging headphones in (hold them away from your ears since it will be full volume) an check whether you can hear the sound of your Apple TV.
If there is no sound something is wrong with your DAC.

The connections to TV and the settings are right assuming you are using AV4 as source in menu.
If it's still not working I have no other ideas.
Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. All the literature I've read to date talks about putting the PCM setting on which doesn't exist on my TV annoyingly. I'm not necessarily loyal to Apple TV so if there is another STB that works with my set up I'll gladly use that.
Cheers

It could also be possible that this PCM setting was introduced with a later DSM SW than yours. But this is of no importance for your setup.Have you tried to connect e.g. a mp3 player to the analogue AV4 audio input? Can you hear something? In speaker setup menu is there only a center speaker set up? Make sure that there are no front and rear speakers if there is only a 7-1 connected.Maybe you could also try SPEAKER - 1 with your remote.
Please do this to set the PCM on:
Menu> Settings > and press RED button (Not standby) and then press > Menu there you can switch on the PCM sound.
Restart your BV7 en your good to go
