My Beolab 1 speaker broke down and B & O technician told me fixing the problem requires Amplifier 230V (Part No. 8006578)  but this is no longer available from B & O.  Would anyone tell me where I can get the required parts or any alternative to fix my speaker?  Thanks.

Sorry to hear your BL1 is broken.  As these were made up to 2006, I'm surprised B&O have no spares for this - that doesn't fit with their previous commitments to servicing products I don't think.

If you can dismantle and remove the amplifier section (it's in the service manual), you may be able to send it to a good repair tech who could repair the whole amp unit.  I'd suggest contacting Beoworld 'Dillen' (Martin Olsen) in Denmark and he may be able to help with repairs to it.  He's our resident repair genius.  In a search box on the forum, just type in 'Dillen' and you can find a post by him - click on his avatar and then you can see his Bio.  Send him an e-mail or 'start a conversation' with him.  He's very busy but I'm sure will help if he can.

It would help if we knew where you are too?

Another alternative is the repair service of a B&O reseller (Quality Dream Audio) easily found online.  Or, a well used repair centre such as:

I had a similar experience, and was amazed to find that there was no support forthcoming from B&O other than the dreaded "product expired"response!!

It's a complex item, and I understand that the amplifier module was made for B&O by an associate company, and these modules are of course no longer made, but you would expect that someone could repair them?

I managed to repair mine,so I would encourage you to seek out a B&O enthusiast as Dave suggests.

Regards,

Nick

Sorry to hear that your needed part is no longer available. I just checked the B&O order system and the part is expired as mentioned in the post.

Where are you located?

Nope, will not work either...

I have a pair of BL1's in for repair. 1 faulty, 1 working. So I can compare.

But no circuit diagrams are available. That's the point. With these diagrams I could repair these, like the BS9000 powersupply's, which  fails often.

But, without diagrams it just pointless measuring (althought I fixed a BL2 even without diagrams), and hoping to find anything. With these Multi-layer circuitboards it's difficult to re-engineer.

I had a bunch of inquries recently for Beolab 1 repairs (including this one).
I normally don't do repairs to the "newer" stuff, I merely try to concentrate on the no longer supported items, - but it seems the
Beolab 1 already belongs in that category.

With the difference that from the older stuff all diagrams are available. And from the newer ones not....

My pair of Beolab 1 is now in Hong Kong.

Martin, would B&O release the circuit diagram for the amplifier of Beolab 1 in the near future?  Thanks.

Dave, is it possible to request B&O to release the diagrams for Beolab 1 since B&O ceased to provide support. Thanks.

I could try contacting B&O and asking but I don't think they would be too helpful in this case, even though the product line ended 9 years ago.

I am not in any way associated with the company, so I can't say.
It would be very nice of them indeed, and it would prove that they care about the people who paid a premium to own their products, but
I seriously doubt it will happen.

As I've said in the related post, I've written to B&O and will let you know the reply.

As they are available in service manuals for most other products, I hope they see sense and can help!  Once I get a reply, I'll post it.

If that is the case, it may not be in B&O's hands to decide whether they can release the documents or not.

This is not the first and only case.

From all the newer products aren't diagrams available. Like the BL1, there are documents from any powersupply like the BV7, BL2, DVD1 etc.

I've already had contact through closest people at B&O. But to no avail.

People paid a high premium for the elegant design of B&O products which used to last for decades, but they can't be a piece of furniture if they don't work. I won't pay such a high premium again if the product has a service life of only around 10 yrs. B&O are damaging their own reputation.

After I contacted B&O directly, they have decided that they will repair Beolab 1 speakers in-house.  See the reply I received below and take a copy to your dealer to ensure they will organise repair:

Dave, thks a lot for your info.

I've checked with B&O service in Hong Kong & they told me that although they continue to service Beolab 1, the amplifier required to fix my speaker is no longer available.  Beolab 1 can be fixed by B&O if the amplifier is not the cause of problem. There isn't any solution to my Beolab 1 yet.

That's disappointing and not the implication of what they said to me.  In fact, it's worse than useless.  I'll write to them again but don't expect any change.  As mentioned previously, I suspect then that the amp section was from a third party.

Dave.

Dear Dave

Please find below the reponse from B&O customer service on my query.

Thanks for contacting Bang&Olufsen technical support team regarding your repair request for your BeoLab 1.

We are sorry to know that your BeoLab 1 has an issue and would like to help you to find a solution. However, as far as I know, the amplifier for BeoLab 1 230V (8006578) is obsolete, which means we can't help to repair it if the amplifier is defective. I' sorry.

Thanks for your patience. Have a nice day.

Best Regards

David Xu

I wrote to them yesterday and I'll let you know what they say.  A 9 year old amplifier is not 'obsolete'.  I really am losing faith in B&O at the moment.

OK, so I wrote to B&O and they have said that they can and will repair Beolab 1's, including the amplifier.  It needs to be sent to Denmark but can be done.  This is the reply from B&O:
