Hi I have recently repaired a Beogram 5500. And I've come up against a problem that I can't seem to solve.
When the tonearm returns back to the start position the mechanism makes a loud clicking sound. Which seems to be related to how far the tonearm needs to travel to return for example if the tone arm returns a short distance there will be more clicks if the tonearm travels from nearer the center point of the record then there are fewer clicks ?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated I've attached a video to illustrate the problem.

I have exactly the same issue with a newly restored BG6500...
It is the 2 large gears at the top that are grinding teeth when the sledge returns to its resting position.. You are correct that it is diferent as to long the sledge has moved inwards, if the record plays to the end, and the sledge returns by itself, theres is no grinding at all.
I cannot seem to solve this either.. I have looked very carefully at all the mechanics, and driven the whole drive by hand, to see if I can figure out what "needs to get out of the way, but isn't" on the return of the sledge in any other position than record played to the end..

After looking closely at mine, and determing why the noise is there, I took a look at the wire, and it seems that the holder for the spring/wire actually was broken, but has not fallen off... But this cased the sledwheel to not return 100% to its end position, and therefore the teeth where grinding..

Just did it on mine, and now the noise is gone, and also the drop for the pickup can now be adjusted to the correct setting, it had problems with some records.
I have the same problem with my Beogram 5500 but I can not find the solution in the archived Beoworld forum. The link does not work
