Maab:Hello, I'm considering to possibility to purchase a center channel speaker to go among my bl5 and bl3 in a non-B&o environment. Looking at the website, unless I missed it, I did not find anything helpful to me. So I'm here... In fact, It seems that the 7-4 or the BL10 (triangular) speakers are not available anymore, but in the used maker are. My question is: can they be connected via a traditional rca cable to a sound processor? If anyone is using them between the bl5, please post your thoughts. Thank you M

It looks like great minds think alike! I have (2) BL5s (front), (2) BL3s (back), and a BL7-4 as the center. These are all connected to an Integra DHC-80.3 via RCA phono jacks.
The challenge with the BL7-4 is the need to run a trigger cable from your preamp to the speaker. I was concerned as the Integra trigger voltage is 12 V while I read that the BL7-4 trigger voltage is to be 4.7 V. However, I bought the latter (3) speakers used from the B & O dealer. I brought up my concerns with the apparently mismatched voltage. The dealer apparently did some checking B & O USA and was told that it would be fine with the voltage mismatch. He supplied all of the cables and I received a warranty on everything.
It has all worked and sounded great.
As an aside, I have the BL3s on homemade stands that match the height of the BL5. I thought that would be best for listening to 5.1 surround sound music. I'd like to get an acoustically transparent projector screen so the BL7-4 can be mounted at the same height as the BL5s. Right now, it is on the floor right below the screen.

I think that with your BL5 speakers the best center would be the BeoLab 10. I've noticed that a few occasionally appear on eBay for a great price. I use a BeoLab 10 and find that it really matches the higher end speakers quite well and does not protrude very far from the wall.

If I may ask, are you happy with the 7-4? Have you by the chance tried a bl3 as center as well? Just curious about a that...

Yes, I'm happy with the BL 7-4. I have not tried subbing a BL 3 in it's place as I have only (2) of the latter.

I forgot to ask earlier, but what are you using as a preamp/processor?
Why aren't you using a B & O source component?

Maab: Doonesbury: I forgot to ask earlier, but what are you using as a preamp/processor? Why aren't you using a B & O source component? D I just replaced my beloved Denon a1hd with a similar marantz processor. I wanted audyssey to calibrate they system and use specifically their Dynamic EQ which I like. I do bypass the equalization for the BL5 thou. I contacted B&o dealer for the sound processor but I don't think they have anything worthy to me. It seems to complicate things...I just never got into it. The beosystem 4 doesn't even have digital out for the beolab. It doesn't decode any of the new formats. To me, it seems that they are falling behind..

I know exactly what you mean about the B & O processor issue. I definitely want (and have) Audyssey for system calibration and equalization. I both calibrate the BL 5s AND use the Audyssey calibration for all (5) speakers. One stupid mistake I made initially was not setting the BL5s to "large". I was initially shocked at how little low bass there was. After I corrected that, it was something else! On some tracks, it feels like my poured concrete basement floor is vibrating.
The other reason I wanted a dedicated pre/pro was to hook up other components, specifically a CD/DVD/BD player and turntable not to mention a cassette deck and VCR.
In a very recent Sound and Vision review, they reviewed a B & O TV and speakers. The center speaker came from the TV. The reviewer noted that B & O doesn't make AVR (audio video receiver) and that their TV is serve in that role. This probably explains why they have discontinued their center speakers.
With your comment about them falling behind, to me, it almost seems like B & O wants its users to be part of a cult such that an AV system can ONLY consist of B & O components. I'm not sure if I've ever seen an AV system comprised of only one manufacturer's products before. I think that it will hurt in the long run.
If they don't want to make preamp/processor that incorporates the things that we (not to mention many others) want, I think they should make an active adapter component that will easily let the user take the preamp output via phono jacks and then have PowerLink output jacks complete with switching and volume control.
To do it right

Greetings Peter Pan
I've seen this before, but I read here that this wouldn't work with the BeoLab 5 (according to Geoff Martin). I read that the volume for the BL5 is controlled by one of the wires in the PowerLink cable unlike the other BeoLab speakers.
I wrote to AV-Connection to get their input on this but they never wrote back.
Can your offer any insight regarding the above setup with the BeoLab 5s?

A B&O tv consists of a tv, in most cases a speaker system, that may serve as the stereo channels or as the center channel and a 'pre-pro' with multichannel capacity. This has been so for decades and has not changed!
The recent 'pre-pro' is called BeoSystem 4 (or rather the audio engine part of it), and serves BeoLab speakers (or other active speakers) with line-level analog signals and (in some cases) with digital wireless (WiSA) signals.
Whether the center speaker/stereo speaker is built-in to the tv or not, does not matter in this case.
It seems that the reviewer from Sound and Vision did not do enough research. Maybe he was confused by the 'somewhat other way' of doing things, that we know from the B&O tv range.

Hallo Doonesbury
"Could you please teel me which version of the BL5, you have?
There are differences - e.g.The MK1 (typ nr. 6881, from before Dec. 2003, without pincode) requires a PL MK2 connection, the later version a PL MK3.
Note: Whether the version in the US were different from the european or not, I don't know!"
Doonesbury
If your BeoLab 5 is the version MK1 (typ no. 6881, up to December 2003 without PIN.

My BL5's were purchased new in 2014.
I saw the link, but unfortunately, I only read English (and sometimes that's a stretch!).
I"m also hesitant on making any electrical components myself as well.
