Hi,  I have just puchased the above plus the Beogram to match - all very exciting!  Anyway I have started the setup and have 2 challenges:

1. I only can get sound out of one speaker and I have tried on both set 1 and set 2 inputs.  Its not the speakers as one will work perfectly if I put into "live" slot - any ideas?

2. I can't seem to get my Beogram turntable weighted correctly - any ideas on this one? I am finding the instructions are a little hard to follow.

thanks

Hi there,

Welcome! Firstly, for the Beogram, which model is it? Have you loosened all of the transport screws under the platter? What is the cartridge you are currently using and have you calibrated the tone arm weight? You basically want the tonearm to be able to float when the cartridge is on. You should try and use a gauge to get this right really.

The 3000-2 issue sounds like a channel problem, but check some simple things first. Are the switches particularly stiff? Is it the right or left channel and do they work on Speaker 2 inputs?

HI Ben,

Yes screws have been loosened to the the max levels per the instructions.  Cartridge is SP10.  Model is the one to match the 3000-2, 1970 model.

As for speakers, yes I have tried them on both speaker 1 and 2 inputs and the problems seems to be the same...only one speaker will work.

This is all very exciting but small steps!

thanks

Peter

To adjust the counter weight turn the scale to "0" and adjust with the chromed end on the counter weight as described in the manual. Speaker outputs: Connect both speakers to speaker 1, turn on FM find a station, if only one speaker is working, change Speaker 1 Left to speaker 1 Right if the speaker that did not work is working now, the problem is the amp,(do the same with speaker 2) connect the BG 3000 (is that your model) turn on Phono, play a record, if the same channel is missing this will confirm a problem with the amp. Give the speaker switches and sound potentiometers a workout with the amp turned off and try again.

We need clear information to be able to help you, like: Beogram model, left or right speaker (output or speaker) not working (NOT one speaker not working) and did you check with FM or phono and so on.

Can you read a diagram and are you familiar with soldering technique

thanks for this great advice, most appreciated.

I have done some more investigation.  Firstly models:

1. BeoMaster 3000-2 - the unit does not seem to have any other model number.  Its the 1970 teak version

2. I have tried my Bevox speakers HT3702 [model 6263] in both SP1 and SP2.  And the problem is the same in either SP1 or SP2, it never works on left side [i.e. when looking at back its with speaker icon facing to left].

3. Beogram - its GR3000 model 5228.  I may have solved the weight problem but now wonder if its actually related to the inputs in the back.  I have plugged it into both Phono 1 [better but very scratchy sound] and Phono 2 [sound worse and very low]

Any ideas of what next?  Have to admit I am not familiar with the soldering option.

Many thanks

Is the missing channel on all sources ?
Balance control centered ?
Test-switch at the rear exercised a couple of times ?

So having success on this with all the great advice.  Read manual again based on this test switch and also adjusted the screws on balance [on under side of amp].  Playing around with these 2 things means I know how both speakers working perfectly!

Now its a matter of getting this balance right on the BeoGram which seems an art more than science....any more guidance on this one?

thanks
