I posted about using cat 7 round the new house thanks for all the replies. I'm now looking at what I need for connections, when I want to terminate the cable into a wall outlet can I use any cat 7 connector!! Also back in the cupboard can I use any cat 7 patch panel, would appreciate your thoughts guys on this as I need to get the patch panel and connectors soon

Kai :)

I am looking at this as well, once you have all your Cat7 back at the cupboard, whether into a patch panel or not, you will need to open the cable to expose the 8 wires and cross connect every Cat7 run with each other, a sort of home made junction box, that is what I have been told so far, I think this is quite easy once you have sourced a suitable plastic box to house the cables.

I would have thought once you have everything back to the cupboard, with the correct cat 7 patch panel, you simply just patch the lead to the correct number on the patch panel, otherwise you might as well use masterlink cable and a junction box!!

Hi Kai,

Too early on a Sunday after too late on a Saturday, so forgive if this is a little fuzzy.  Cool  You ought to be able to use just about any Cat 7 ends/wall plates.  But please note:  there are two ways to terminate Cat 7, A & B.  Bang & Olufsen have chosen B, which ought to be easy to remember.  Smile

You can certainly go through all of the bother of cross connecting all of your Cat 7 runs by hand, but B&O can provide a pre-made patch panel which gives you 6 slots, so 1 in, and 5 out; and if need be you can daisy-chain two or more together.  Part number 8052351 and approx $135.00 each here in the US.  Similarly there is a PL patch panel #8052352, same price, meant to feed 2 pairs of BeoLab speakers.

All you need after that is a box for all of the panels, and, of course B&O offer that as well: #3400206, $160USD.    Thee is also an assortment of brackets for that box and 19" rack-mounts.  I can't remember if there is anything else required, but your local shop ought to be able to provide any additional details.

I hope this helps!

Russ

Hi Russ

Thanks for your reply, and for the parts numbers, I will have a look at them good to know you can use any connectors, I used to work for local b & o store, I know how to wire cat cable, I'm pretty sure you could use cat 7 patch panel, but will check it out. :)

hello,

i wired my house with ethernet cables as it seems you are planning to do.i use the lexcom home solution. it is based on two things :

1\ a 'router' masterlink or powerlink in the patch panel

2\ lexcom cables for rj45-masterlink and rj45-powerlink

i am very pleased with the solution, though it may be possible to d.i.y. for less.

have a look. if you want more information, don't hesitate to ask.

Yeah I have heard of the lexcom system, but I was wondering can you use a standard cat 7 patch panel!
