Along with the updates to other products this week the A9 2nd Gen has been updated.

The software was updated to: 1.1.165.204343514

Does anyone have the release notes? There were a few bugs they needed to fix including a sequence that would cause it to suddenly reboot.

Appreciate it.

I don't know where to find FW release notes. (btw: anyone has an idea where to look?)

However, after an update I can tell you what has changed for me:

- A9 does not "hang" in this unresponsive mode anymore with two leds blinking white

- in Beosetup app, within Settings, now there is a "Beolink" section where A9 can join other NL devices

- as I am using Essence Remote to control volume/fwd/start/stop on A9 frequently, I can confirm now it is much more responsive, plus no issues anymore when the "wheelie" does not have direct line of sight to A9 (yes, I know it connects via BT and it shouldn't be relevant - but it didn't work before, looks like BT signal strenght or handleing has been improved)

This is what I was able to figure out.

I've just seen my A9 has been updated again:

1.1.196.230257613

I imagine this is the multi-room code?

@AnalogPlanet

one place is to look in the FAQ's of the A9 2nd  - the above version seems to be the newest.

I - too - suppose, that it has to do with the support for multiroom.

Yes, I would assume the same, multiroom plus some other glitches fixed.

Yes, I did mine last week when it was released. No idea what it can do now or what the update covered?

Another new update today: 1.1.232.121236290

Anyone know what these updates fix or add?

Nope, no idea. :/ Just puzzled why B&O keeps it so secretive?

I believe even from the perspective of customer rights it needs to be made transparent.

I can't believe you are asking this. It has to be top secret otherwise it could endanger B&O operatives out in the field on covert reconnaissance missions and special forces operations. B&O will neither admit to not refute a software update - that it is or isn't or that it was in the past was or wasn't a software update. It's on a need to know basis and B&O have decided we just don't need to know. It should be accepted as one of those tactical unknown unknowns - Who Dares Wins. Field Marshall Bang and Lord of the Seas Olufsen.

This is really a good comment and I believe the total truth. Guess what today's update on V1, Avant, Moment... changed...

Very, very few B&O costumers care for knowing.

But you are right - one should be able to look it up somewhere.

Maybe asking a dealer helps.

That was the case, I believe, in the past.

With more and more young customers this is changing dramatically. Also, today it is taken for granted - as product are more SW-based and this impacts customer more profoundly and frequently.

Guys at B&O would really do themselves a favor if they lose 1980's mentality.

Totally disagree. Most customers in this day and age are used to their devices being updated monthly. Even my thermostat gets a monthly update and people want to know the enhanced value or fixes being made. This applies to my phone, car, games console, TV, alarm/clock, thermostats, Network storage, router, apps, applications etc...............

Its actually great marketing knowing that your product just keeps getting better and yet you've not paid any extra.

This is the new normal. Why are B&O customers perceived to be of retirement age where the perception is the product stays static through its lifecycle?

Software updates are usually, though not exclusively done to enhance the user experience, iron out bugs, introduce new features etc.  In the case of my B&O stuff, unless they want to collect data on me personally and my use of their products - though I think they can now do that for some products, I don't really care what the update includes so long as it makes the products work better for us.

For Apple, Google, Facebook etc, I suspect they have to disclose what the update entails as they will have to disclose that yes, they do want to collect and use your data, photo's etc and no, you can't do much about it if you want to use their products.

Dave.

Well how do you know then what was fixed (if you are not member of this forum)?

Or to revert the discussion: is there risk for a vendor if they share 3-5 bullet release notes with every update? Even if that makes only 20% of customers happy - question is why not making them happy (and the rest do not care anyway)?

firmware updates should always be taken as a positive, it shows the manufacture is listening to their customers and or proactively bettering their products.

explaining most bug updates could just generate more questions and slow the service team down, I take it as checking and tightening the screws...

I have plenty of equipment that I had to register "on line" and never had an update and they are the manufactures I now question ...

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

Most users won't even know that there may be an issue to start with.  It could be a glitch with another particular device for example that doesn't affect them.  It therefore wouldn't matter to them that it has been fixed for the benefit of others.  There may of course be a very good reason for a vendor to not want to publish what the update is as it may give their product competitive advantage that they don't want others to know about.  I don't need to know what was fixed so long as it still works - unlike my A2 which was destroyed by the last update!

It's a moot point in many ways as if B&O decide not to let people know what's in the update, it's their decision which is very unlikely to be swayed by whatever we say here.
