Hi All

It's been a while since I posted as all my B & O equipment has been behaving itself until.......

My beloved, pristine BC1 has got a problem with the integral DVD player.  Just won't play a disc.  Sounds like the motor tries to spin twice then gives up.  Have tried a DVD cleaner but not spinning that either.  So bad news is probably needs some serious intervention from Simon at AVA unless anyone else knows any other diagnostic procedures I can perform.

As there is little or no residual value in the set, my thoughts initially tiurned to BV7 which I believe is a fine looking TV. We have been spoilt with the quality of picture on the BC1 CRT.  It seems that to get an equivalent picture I need to look at BV7 mk3-4 with an HD freeview.  But as there is no recordable device in the BV7 I would need to invest in a HD PVR also.  Which all looks like it is mounting to £2k + at leading reseller prices (who, incidentally I trust implicitly and has given me a very competitive price).

I do get annoyed at watching widescreen DVD's on the BC1 and only using 60% of the screen, but that is the only gripe.  I love the look of the BC1 on it's majestic polished video stand, with it's quality picture and speakers.  It still turns heads with our guests, "wow what is that TV I've never seen one like that".

Has anyone else been at a similar junction?  And what did you consider.  I am so ashamed to admit I am considering looking at other manufacturers to see if they can satisfy my requirements.

Other units in the same room are BS3000 fed into the BC1 with Detoma power amp (so sweet) driving Leema Acoustics Xero loudspeakers (incredible sound from such a small beautiful enclosure in piano black gloss laquer) via The Cord Company speaker cable (thick as a snake!)

Thank you

Jon

Hi Jon,

which size BV7 is it that you are considering?

Never had a BC1 but if the picture was anything like the old Avant, it would have been good and hard to replace.  I now have a BV7_55 and it is incredible.  It is an eye-catcher on its moving stand too and is always admired for the looks as well as picture quality.

The advantage of a BV7 is that you can still connect your BS3000.  As for recording, I just use a 1TB Western Digital hard drive (size of a wallet) connected via USB - no seperate power cord needed, to my sat box (I don't use the BV7 decoder for a variety of reasons in France) and the picture quality is indistinguishanle from watching live TV.

Don't be ashamed at looking at other makes.  You need a TV that fulfills your needs.  Identify those first and then make a decision.  For the money, I don't think you can beat the quality of picture, build materials etc of a used BV7 when compared to other makes but that's just my view.

Dave.

I have a BC1 on a pole stand, and it has been on the black video stand and a wall bracket in the past.

it's a fabulous TV, and if the stand suits your particular room I would look at just getting another BC1 on eBay. As you say, they have next to no value because the demand for CRT's has fallen to near zero. Ironically, the stands now have a value much higher than the TV's themselves!

I fully agree. I am one of the few who also still uses the old CRTs. I currently have the old Avant, an AV 9000 and a Beocenter 1. All of these are fantastic from my point of view and a Beocenter 1 with ML and DS on a pole stand is a set that's not easy to rival - in particular at the prices these go for nowadays.

Cheers,

Kai

Thanks Guys.  Looking at 32 or 40" BV7 at a push.
