Hello Friends,
I'm very new here so please forgive me if this duplicates another old or newer thread.
I have had the above mentioned TT since I bought it new and primarily wanted it for the linear tone arm to protect my vinyl. It's been sitting idle, all that time hooked up to my pre-amp and for quite a few years because I've gotten lazy and started playing CDs.
I have an LP on it as I write this and It seems to work and sound perfectly, I was thinking the belt must history by now. I know I have the owner's manual around somewhere because I would never throw something like that away. But in the meantime can someone tell me if you think some preventative maintenance or any general upkeep is necessary? And what about the belt or is this direct drive?
All I found by searching for this model are threads by people who had problems, and/or bought used units and they were burned. Last, the nearest B&O store to me is not far, about 150 miles in Cincinnati.

Welcome to Beoworld !
Most of these decks are still running absolutely fine, even if given no particular maintenance apart from a newplatter belt every 10-15 or so years. (I can supply correct platter belts).If your deck is otherwise running fine, there's no reason to do much else, really.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. Just in case I should probably have an extra belt anyway. I'll look over the forum categories to find out how to order from you. At the moment, I know nothing about the store I mentioned in the USA. By the way, I just found the owner's manual and the safety booklet.

Now there does seem to be a slight problem. I hear a hum when the needle first hits the record and before it gets to the music. Later it is still there, not just as apparent.
If you lift the tonearm (gently!) using f.e. a cottonbud, while playing, does the hum continue or stop?
Hi Martin, thanks for helping me troubleshoot this. When I lifted it there is still a buzz or hum.
My pre-amp has a phono1 and a phono2 input and the B&O is in phono1 right now. I also have a Thorens TD160 that I can try plugging into the same input. OR, switch the B&O from phono1 to phono2. I think my preamp is OK because the CD and FM tuner seem fine and with no hum. Let me know if that info might be useful.
Is the grounding wire properly connected to the amp?

WOW Lee, you might have the solution! I just checked and the ground wire on the TT is hanging loose. It's a bit of a bother to get at the back of the preamp but that's the first thing I'll do. Much appreciated!!
Lee, you nailed it! I didn't remember there was a ground wire [doh]. The only snag was the connector wouldn't fit onto the ground post on my preamp (McIntosh C28). So I had to crimp it with some small pliers to make one end of the U-shaped sides narrow. BTW, for those of you unfamiliar with this preamp, when you back the tightening nut off the post there is a small hole, too small for the way the B&O ground wire ends come. The hum is finally gone and my ~30 year old TT is up to snuff.
