I recently bought some lovely used Beolab 8000's, and the owner provided me with a tangle of powerlink cables to go with them. When I got home however, I found the cables had been cut in half for some reason...
These are about 10m long, so worth saving if possible. I think they are MK3's as there is a yellow and a blue cable, then a brown and green cable each wrapped in wire, which I presume is shielding? Is there an 'official' solution for joining these together - bearing in mind I don't have soldering equipment or abilities, or can anyone recommend a workable, inexpensive solution for this problem?
Incidentally, I have a couple of UK 'BT78A'-style telephone junction boxes, used for joining telephone cables; I wondered if I could use these, but I don't know anything about these boxes re. voltages etc. Also, would I just twist together the shielding wires from the brown & green wires and join these together, or must they be joined separately?
I'm happy to try to salvage these if possible - but please just tell me of I should just throw them in the bin and buy some new ones!
Kind Regards to All.

Thanks for the input Bramble - it's the shielding wires that bother me most, as I'm concerned I could end up with 'hum' like you, or worse!
Before I bin them or waste a day trying to 'fix the unfixable', does anyone else have any comments? Any input appreciated...
I joined (whilst making a Y splitter) power link cables with no problem. I used a suitable small junction box from an alarm, so I was able to use screw fixings instead of twisting and taping, but I suspect that would work as well. The telephone junction boxes I found were 'push in' cable connectors so thought the screw in better/easier.
I seem to remember that I just joined all the various cables together and haven't had any problems.
Email Steve at sounds heavenly and he will most likely advise or sell you some new ones, there don't cost that much to save the hassle and give peace of mind.

Thanks for your comments Dave.
In the end I actually just bought a new set of cables from Steve, but I have held on to the original severed wires and I have a couple of telephone boxes lying around, so maybe on a slow day I'll try joining them up and seeing how they work out...
Regards.

Bring them into the store next time you are in Liverpool and I'll see what we can do for you.

Hi Nick,
Thanks for your offer - I'm away until end August, but I'll drop in when I'm back home.
(Still dreaming of a Beolab 19 by the way..!)
