Have anyone had bad ones be shortened ?

They can fail in any way you can think of, - plus a few more.
Shorting is just one of them.

Yes, every fail possible.

Shortened, complete dead and open, resistor behaviour, exploded, cracked, acid spreading... whatever you can imagine...

But 30-40 years are a long time... just imagine, what todays Quality will do in 2050?

considering the short distance in the pinout of the rode caps

Which replacements caps do you recommend for the biplor rode caps ?

Depends on the capacity... WIMA MKP or MKS types. RM5.
