Hi All,
I am rebuilding a Beomaster 8000 that has a dead volume encoder. It works well if I hold a flashlight to it. The IR LED has 5V applied. In fact I measured 5V across the LED, while the frequency encoder LED only shows the prescribed 1.2V indicating that the volume LED is o.c..
I re-soldered the contacts, but to no avail. So, I guess I need a new LED. The service manual does not list what is on the optocoupler board...
If anyone had some advice where to find a IR LED with the right form factor, I would be most appreciative! Thanks much in advance!

Thanks! I shall go and hunt some mice...
Just wanted to give an update on my volume encoder repair progress:
I fixed it by replacing the IR diode with a OPTEK TECHNOLOGY - OP240A - IR EMITTER 890NM 0.76MM SIDE LOOKING (Newark 08F2957). The device has exactly the same package as the original defective unit and pops right in. On to fixing the displays...;-)
