Hello,

I have a 500 Go USB HDD attached to my BeoSound 5 Encore. All was fine. But I was tied to see a lot of music in "unknown artist". Many mp3 did not have tag because I'm digitalizing my huge collection of LP (around 4000), not including CD and musical DVD! I also play music (no tags for that!).

I've decided to use MP3Tag in order to have something more usable. I did it in many times without any problem.

But, since the last time, my BeoSound 5 Encore is very strange: when the HDD is plugged, it says it loads USB, I can play radio or music and after a short time, it reboots. Pretty impossible to stop it!

I've checked the disk with Windows tools (chkdsk and others): no problem. I probably have a very bad mp3 tag which makes this. I suspect that the metadata are corrupted.

I've tried to let the system unplugged one hour, entered the pin code, same thing. Tried also to rescan the disk in the maintenance index, still no effect.

Sometimes, I've seen a orange circle (error) but I don't know more.

I can format this HDD in Fat32 instead of NTFS and rewrite the music files, but I think the problem is not there.

Has somebody an idea ? Do you know a free Windows tool to check mp3 tags?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards.

François

Hello,

I've formatted the disk in Fat32, copied the music collection without some files which ave no tags (some friends and my own music).

Still the same thing.

Reading on the net, I've seen this problem occurs.

I've tried some free softwares without changes. I've called my B&O retailer ... no help.

May somebody tell me what to do?

I'm pretty sure that I've got a mp3 tag disturbing the BeoSoud. But which one?

May I find somewhere the error codes and their signification?

If it contains the bad file name, it would be solved!

Lot of thanks.

Best regards.

Hi Francois and welcome to Beoworld.

Since you already use MP3Tag, you already have answered your question about 'a free windows tool to check mp3 tags.

It is the best tool for this job.

Have you tried to connect another HDD or a USB key with music files on your Encore?

Hello,

I've tried a USB key with few records: OK, an other USB HDD with all albums: same problem, Only the groups from A to D (7355 files in 824 folders, 39 Go, yes I like music), same problem. I've formatted my HDD in Fat32, copied the all files, still not working.

As I told before, Winamp or VLC have no problem with it.

On the moment, I have 149 Go in around 34500 files. Mainly coming from my huge collection of LP, CD and musical DVD. The problem can't be caused by a bad downloaded file: it's not necessary, I have enough music and I continue to buy records. I didn't had bought such an equipment without a good reason.

In the 70/80, we hand plenty of groups and the LPs were really affordable, even for a student, including the second hand market. As my beginnings in music were learning classical piano (and Beatlemania, I still have my old bass), I also have a lot of classical composers.

My files are mp3 and FLAC for rarities and classical.

I've tried MP3val and Mp3Diags this morning. Each have found a lot of problems, but many were there before this occurs. I've just plugged the HDD, listen the news and shut down the BeoSound. No reboot. Maybe it's better. I will now try to listen some music.

I've seen some tags were containig russian or japanese characters (Chopin or Brahms) but I've tagged this Harmonia Mundi collection since some years.

Often, it shows something like USB loading on the left down corner in orange colour and "suspended" few minutes after.

I've tried to rebuild the songs indexes, but it's sometimes in grey in the menu. When this function is available, it has no effect.

The HDD is plugged on the front of the BeoSound. I've never used the other plug.

As far as I know, Mp3tag doesn't check tags (and repair it) or I've missed this function.

How are you processing?

I would like to see my BeoSoud 5 with my PC for transferring music,it will avoid to plug / unplug the HDD, but my attemps weren't succesful.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards.

Do you have MOTS activated?

How about playing from a DLNA server on your pc?

Did you ever test that - even if is just temporary?

P.S. MP3Tag is pretty much for manual (based on different sources) tagging.

Handy if you use it along the way, adding new files - but imo not the real deal, if you want to reorganize/retag a big existing collection.

Hello,

Yes, MOTS is activated. The energy saver mode too. My last experience in not satisfying: this morning, the red light on the right up corner was on. So, it has rebooted while I was sleeping or doing someting else. I din't servey it when I've plugged the HDD.

This problem makes me crazy: I don't know what to do and my retailer just said he has never encountred this. So, no help from him. That's not very nice.

I didn't try to get the factory settings. I'm not sure this can be useful and I will loose my radio playlists. If it's necessary, I will do it.

Don't you know a very sensitive player for PC? I've read reople had the same thing with itunes. I don't use it. Winamp or VLC are working fine.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards.

I'd turn off the MOTS function.

These calculations is a hard job with your lot of files.

As far as I remember, the Encore starts recalculating every time the HDD is plugged (during standby periods).

Why don't you give a DLNA server (Twonky is the one, that B&O suggests) running on your PC a try - you could start out with some of the files?

Hello,

DLNA is a good suggestion. I will configure and activate it in Win 8.1. If it runs...

Do you know ab efficient (and sure) tool for tagging my coolection? I'm obliged to do this as I don't know which tag is corrupted.

As I am very eclectic in my choices, I've nerver thought MOTS was very "intelligent". For me, it's a random mode, that's all. What may be its influence on my problems?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards.

As I write above - MP3Tag has been my choice.

But it is a hell lot of work, if you want it done 100%.

I don't know of any tool, that automatically 'does the work for you'.

That is why I am so happy with streaming from a music services.

I never really finished ripping/tagging my CD's (I have a lot) - now I just rip those, that aren't available on the streaming services.

Please do turn off MOTS and see what happens next time you plug in the HDD.

And do some experiments with media/DLNA servers.

Actually I don't think, that connecting a HDD with a huge amount of files is the best way to use the Encore.

Hello,

I will turn off MOTS. In Winamp, the DLNA is showing my BeoSound (the IP address is there) but doesn't knows what it is. This option could be nice if I let my PC lighted on everytime. It's not the case: it's a gamer tower in a Cosmos box. I don't really need it for playing (some car races or FlightSim), but ... for music playing. It's a part of my home studio.

Before to buy it, I've talked about that with my retailer. He said there was no problem until 500 Go.

An other thing: I live in a 300 years old house. With one meter wide stone walls. In those times my ancestors didn't care of  WiFi or cell phones.

So, I have my PC connected with a RJ45 to the box, the TV decoder connected to the box with CPL (it runs well) and the BeoSound connected to the rear panel of the TV decoder with a RJ45.

For radio, it's OK. But for music, including large files?

I will test the DLNA software you recommand and I will see.

As we have rain, Normandy is always green ..., I have some time for testing many solutions!

If it runs without the MOTS, may I rebuild the indexes, turn off / on and reuse MOTS or may I definitely forget it? We don't have random mode.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards.

Hello,

I didn' test it a lot, but it seems better. When I shut down the Beosound with the rear little button, the red light on thr upright corner disappears and comes back.

Is it normal? I've no more MOTS and energy save mode.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

The music is back! I've just left very few tags and covers.I've let it rebuildind indexes without MOTS: OK. Then, I've activated MOTS after OFF / ON: OK.

MOTS is not perfect but has an advantage for me: hearing tracks that I have forgotten. Like many people having a huge collection, I often program the same things.

With MOTS, I redescover LPs of the 70 / 80, that I don't know very well: on a record, you often prefer some tracks and rarely hear the whole disc.

As I've used both, I don't know which one is the best. But the solution was MP3Diags and Mp3val.

Strangely, I have bad FLAC files and it doesn't affect the system. I don't know how to repair it. The solution would be to numerize my LPs again if I don't find an efficient tool.

Thanks for all.

François

Hello Beosound 5 Encore users, I have an issue and was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if they have a fix. I have the DLNA set up with my music, the files show up on the BS5 in multiples, for example one mp3 file is showing up 8 times when i look by names on the BS5. I tried reset reboot nothing seems to be clearing out the duplicates.....

Any idea or help is appreciated.
