Thanks, all. Since I just picked up the MKI remote and box for less than the cost of the new box and, bearing in mind differences between the two models, I'm now a fair bit happier about the decision.
At this rate, by the time I start thinking about upgrading, they'll have come up with a slightly improved MKIII.
vlohjr1:BeoMegaMan:No rumor. It doesn't have it. Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little thereI concur. My UK dealer confirmed it.

I think it would be a great idea for a separate product for sure. Something more PlayMaker with the external TV IR like the Transmitter 1 would be a perfect stripped down product idea IMHO.
As for why there is no WISA in the MKII ( my own pure speculation), the MKII is the modern day Active kit for all intensive purposes. Most of those Kits are hidden in a rack somewhere or at the very least in the attic of most peoples homes. If WISA was included in the product a great deal of people couldn't use it because of the MKII location. Having the transmitter modular allows for the installation to run a PL cable to the remote location and place the transmitter within proximity of the speakers to work properly. It also in turns lower the cost of the product and allows those who need WISA to purchase for their unique situation rather than all of us paying for a feature probably few will use (again speculation).
Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there
Best thing would be two different types of essence. One more expensive with WISA and one cheeper without
@BeoMegaMan
I would vote for an even more stripped down box.
a 'Join-box' with no own/internal sources, but with an external ir-eye.
The eye for the manual join command, volumen and turn off - and for use with the remote.
That would be the modern Active Kit.
As for your thoughts on the Essence-box with/without WiSA and the reason for an external Transmitter-box (maybe a Transmitter 2 for an only-stereo-version), I think that you are on the right track.
Yes, some people have rack systems in their attics. And then some live in apartments and would appreciate WISA in Essence 2, even as a paid extra module (why not).
This is a bit disappointing.
Plus, now that Essence has wireless updated to 802.11n what is the rationale on keeping 802.11b/g on more expensive Moment?

I guess I'm missing the point. There is a paid extra module. It's the Transmitter 1. If you need WISA, there you go. Maybe not as convenient as having it in the box, but if you need it, it is there for purchase.
The B/G make sense to support legacy equipment out in the wild. You'd be surprised how many people are still using older wireless equipment.
Nice, just a observation
New product is launched......
first ohhh -ahhh
Now what should have been....... the not favourable solutions......... the stupid ones.......
what's next?
history is repeating itself
Carolpa:Nice, just a observation New product is launched...... first ohhh -ahhh Now what should have been....... the not favourable solutions......... the stupid ones....... what's next? history is repeating itself
@BeoMegaMan: now we're into semantics. Yes, there is an "extra module" that is accidentally another full size box same size as Essence itself. And yes, extra attractive in that size for people who don't have racks. The "elegance" of that solution is very B&O. Not.
Regarding 802.11 b/g/n: Essence supports it all. So should the Moment.
I never implied B&O needs to stop supporting g/b, just add n as it a yesteryear's mainstream. (Better companies already have ac as a standard for like two years lol, here we discuss if B&O could MAYBE include n in Moment).
carlito: Short update. Installed the Essence MK2 today. Overall experience is very good. The BeoMusic App is currently NOT working with the new Essence. The last update of the App was back in January this Year. Workaround: Spotify via Bluetooth is working, TuneIn is working (Configured via BeoSetup App). ITunes Library connected via Aux-In from my DAC (controlled via Remote App from Apple). Keep you posted when the update is ready

The answer is no!
The Essence (the box) is Spotify Connect compatible - which means, that you can redirect the sound from the Spotify app to it.
Spotify must be controlled through the Spotify app.
TWG: dumb question: Can the Essence MK1 use the external IR eye, too?
Not a dumb question!
The answer - ;-) - is Yes!
You can find that info (and which commands are supported) in the Costumer Service -> FAQ on the B&o website.
Raeuber:Still a question I had already with Essence Mk 1 and now Mk 2: I want to connect Essence to AUX input of BS 9000 and control it with Beo4 without using the 'knob' by using the additional IR-eye of Essence. I know I have to switch on BS 9000 with A.MEM or A.AUX. But which commands I have to use to remote the Essence? Using RADIO, CD, N.RADIO or N.MUSIC will remote BS 9000! I don't want to use the ML/NL converter because I cannot connect it to my router in basement and it would not make much sense to spend the same amount of money for the converter as for the Essence itself. Regards Räuber

Hi Räuber (long time no see),
you'd have to put your BS9000 in option 4 (and use the Link command, when controlling it) to avoid these double commands.
This - of course - only works, if the 9000 is standalone, and not a source for your tv (opt 0).
And it is not quite the elegant solution!
Instead you could use the BeoMusic app to control it - and skip the ir-eye/the remote controlling.
if you use Spotify, you would just have to redirect the stream from the Spotify app - instead of airplaying.
AirPlay (and DLNA) will work just as with the Playmaker connected the same way.
And you could have the 'wheely' to start Netradio, skip stations, activate last used source etc - very limited, but....
N.B. The Essence will have to be set up with a fixed line-out, because all volumen controlling is done in the 9000 (alternatively in the BV).
P.S. In your case you might be better off with a Playmaker - unless you need the integration of TuneIN through the BeoMusic app.
You did understand me correct.
That is what I intend to do (for a next step at home).
In my setup I also have a V1 (as standalone/no converter).
This will also benefit from the Essence - (N.Radio as an example mapped as a source there, and started with the Radio button on my Beo4).
And I will be able to distribute sound from the V1 to the Essence (and from there on the ML).
Even if I won't need that that much - it is nice to have in certain situations.
Apart from the radio-thing through the V1 - first of all I will (as you would) have TuneIN radio and Spotify Connect as extra sources.
This seems to me to justify the costs.....and I am prepared for buying the BLC some time soon then ;-)
In your case it seems, that the 'another solution' would be better.
You can only get 'one button start-up' of Essence sources in a NL-setup.

x16szr:Hello Raeuber, why you don't have a look at the "Gramofon"? I use it connected to my BV10-40 by AV V-mem. The BV starts in the audio mode by my Beo4. Spotify Connect and TuneIn Radio comfortable only controlled NOT streamed by my Idevices... And via ML in my Bathroom or where ever...(all about €50)
Raeuber:My BS 9000 is set to option 0 (audiomaster in Masterlink setup). I would like to have TuneIn Radio and Spotify (Connect version), that's why the Essence would be the solution and not the Playmaker. The Playmaker wouldn't give me additional features compared to my ATV connected to BV 7.

hi räuber!
does not the essence wake up from standby if you start the music from the mobile via spotify connect or itunes (airplay)? So only press Aux on the beo4 and start streaming via a mobile without the need of the essence weelremote or the ir-eye.

If u hold the standby button on a remote, or more specific the essence wheel. Does all the network-link equipment in the house turn off? I would like to place a wheel in the hallway and am wondering if it can be a 'shutdown-home' button.
Raeuber:I took a look at the Gramofon (again). Also Millemissen posted his experiences with this interesting device in December last year. But what I miss is a digital output, so you have to use the DAC of the Gramofon. That's why I fear the sound with good Beolabs will not be superb. No brand is able to offer such a device for 50 € with a high quality DAC. Or am I wrong? Regards Räuber
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
I am also considering adding the Essence to my setup with the V1. First was thinking about Moment, but now Essence is a great alternative.
Sorry to ask a few probably dump questions, but I am not (yet) home in all details of B&O systems. Three things not yet clear to me:
- Is V1 supported in the multiroom and beo app as only the BV Avant is mentioned on th e B&O multiroom page as supported TV
- I have 2x BL3 connected to my V1. How should I connect the BL3? To the Essence so I can use them just to play music/radio (without switching on the V1) or keep them to the V1? The question is if I can still use the BL3 in a TV surround module of my V1 (3.1 surround setup) is the additional speakers are not connected directly to the V1?If the addional speakers need to be connected to the TV for full use during TV mode, there is probably less functionality for the Essence, unless I buy addiional speakers to link them with the essence?
- Does the beo app also has player capabilities on the iPhone/iPad itself. e.g. Can you access and play all music on your Phone with a headset and even play through iPhone on my A2 or is the app only an infrastructure, but no actual player?
thanks for clarifying
1: The V1 is supported (but not listed on the multiroom webpage, because it is discontinued).
3: BeoMusic is a control app - can not be used for local playback.
2: I'll have to come back on that later - maybe someone else has the 100% correct answer to it.
Hi guys, finally received my Essence mk2 today to use with BL15/16/Amp1 on a bathroom. I have never had an Essence before and never used any B&O apps or Spotify Connect, but I have a WISA sub (BL19), a Transmitter1 and some Receivers and a Playmaker for AirPlay, so I have som experience with this new wireless stuff.
What I want to do with this Essence is to maximise the WAF (wife acceptance factor) on the bathroom, and unfortunately I thought that we could do some setup in the Beo Music app and then play Spotify and Tunein radio stations from the remote without a connected phone or other device. Now it seems that I need to start Spotify on a device, enable Connect and leave it open and in the network to use Spotify. Any suggestions on how to increase the WAF here? Could I leave some iPod logged in constantly, or would I lose the connection to Spotify connect anyway? Any other ideas?
When I select a Spotify playlist, the essence keeps on playing that playlist even if I turn my phone off or disconnect it from the internet.
Have you tried using Deezer yet through the app?

The same happened to me, but only for a while. I kept WIFI off on the phone and tried to start Spotify again from the remote, but it switched to Tunein. I can try with Deezer later if they have a free month, but then I won`t be able to test your premium problems anyway, unfortunately.
Anyone succeeded in adding favourites to Tunein in the Beomusic app? Doesn`t work here, and it`s really annoying when pressing next on the remote takes my to any random radio channel.
