Can you select Spotify playlist from within the BeoMusic app?
No, you launch the Spotify app from within Beomusic, press Connect in the Spotify app and use the Spotify app for operation. It`s probably better than using the Beomusic app, but the problem is that you can`t just start Spotify by using the remote - it seems you have to connect through a device first..
If start Spotify and then stop it by useing the wheel. Can i start it again with the wheel and not have to play tennis with apps and devices? Is the multiroom making the essence hard and not easy to use for users with only one b&o device?

Yes, you can start it again directly from the product. When you press the "sound" button of the Essence Remote (i.e. the top button of the "wheel"), you get to toggle among the sound sources, with the following order:
1. TuneIn Internet Radio2. Deezer (or DLNA)3. Spotify Connect4. Line In
If you dont have a source (e.g. Deezer) it is automatically skipped.
So, in your case, starting the BeoSound Essence from stand by will initially play TuneIn (first press). And then with one more press it will play Spotify Connect, where you left it at.
The same logic applies also to the BeoPlay A9 (2nd gen.), but there you are simply "tapping" the product on its back (touch sensor).
Finally, if there is any other already on-going experience in your BeoLink Multiroom system (i.e. a system with more than one product), the first "press" or "tap" will actually join the on-going experience. The subsequent press/taps will toggle the sources as above.

L1NO: If u hold the standby button on a remote, or more specific the essence wheel. Does all the network-link equipment in the house turn off? I would like to place a wheel in the hallway and am wondering if it can be a 'shutdown-home' button.

Yes, long pressing the Essence Remote silence button (i.e. the bottom button), will put all your BeoLink Multiroom products to stand-by. Both audio and TV products. The same applies to the BeoPlay A9 (2n gen.), by long pressing the round "power" button.
MARKFS: Anyone succeeded in adding favourites to Tunein in the Beomusic app? Doesn`t work here, and it`s really annoying when pressing next on the remote takes my to any random radio channel.

Did you make sure that you have entered your TuneIn credentials ALSO on the product? (you need to enter them both on the BeoMusic App AND your products). Otherwise the product will do prev/next among the "default" radio stations. This sounds like your problem.
Open the BeoSetup App, select your product, then "Your Content" and finally "TuneIn". Make sure you enter your credentials there, and then your should have not problem.

Assuming that the device used to start Spotify Connect (e.g. an iPhone with Spotify app) is still logged in to Spotify and in the same network, right? I consider to keep a device permanently logged in for this purpose.

I guess the double quotes got a little messed up here, it was actually I who asked this question after quoting MARKFS. Anyway:
Thanks! No, I didn`t - at least not before writing the post, but I`ve tried a lot of things today including logging in via the Setup app, so now I`m not sure about the causality here, but here is how the situation is right now:
I still can`t add or see favourites aka. followed stations in the Beomusic app, but after logging in via the Setup app and also downloading the Tunein app and adding favourites from there, I can now switch between my favourite stations by using the bluetooth remote - which is what I need. I can even change the order of the stations in the Tunein app and get the same cykle on the bluetooth remote. Perfect for me, but if I wanted to use the Beomusic app to add or choose favorite stations, I would still have a problem.
HC: Assuming that the device used to start Spotify Connect (e.g. an iPhone with Spotify app) is still logged in to Spotify and in the same network, right? I consider to keep a device permanently logged in for this purpose.
No, actually you dont need the iPhone to be still on the same network. You need to use the iPhone at least once with the Essence/A9, over Spotify Connect. After that, the product would link to your Spotify account automatically (i.e. directly to the Spotify cloud). Thus, even if you switch-off the phone, or you take it outside the home network, the Essence/A9 can still start the Spotiy stream directly from the cloud...
I am using A9Mk2 with Essence wheel.
Fantastic thing is, as updated by Petros, I can actually choose with which source A9 "wakes up". Also, great to know long press on "down" puts unit into sleep.
But why is it, unlike any other brand I've ever bought, that so many things are undocumented? What if I was not part of this forum? How was I supposed to learn I can actually start A9 in Deezer play "mode" and not only and neccessarily in TuneIn play?
Btw, I have also successfully put A9 to sleep by long pressing Essence "wheelie" down button. <3 Just love it.

Right, that sounds really promising - then I probably just had some random problem that led me to believe that it did`t work without the Spotify device on the same network. This all sounds really good, thanks!

Especially handy in my setup, as a long press makes the BL15 speakers "tilt" back into the wall

You are right, that this is not really part of the Userguides. In the guide for the Essence 2nd gen you can read:
'...Press again to switch between available music sources.'
However, the information, that Petros mentioned in one of his posts above, can be found - along with other nice infos - in the FAQ's about the Essence 2nd gen on the B&O website.
First gen was starting the last-played source.
Second gen is toogling between the available sources.

I gave up at my 9th attempt . . . I hope they are not in the moderators' queue !
The moderators are having a busy time with us at the moment 🙀
The same happened to me once, I posted twice and then tried another web browser - somehow it worked in the other browser while the two first posts appeared after some hours.
Edit: Double post (ironically)..
elephant:MM that still begs AnalogPlanet's question.B&O systems are (and always have been eg my 5000) incredibly sophisticated systems. So why has the documentation over decades been so sparse ?It's as though the minimalist philosophy has been applied here as well. But that prevents us exploiting their solutions' rich capabilities.
That's exactly what I thought. I think this is a wonderful addition to the "wheelie" (as I am not even using it with Essence), B&O should be less "shy" and more prominently than just in FAQ section put it on display for current and potential future users.
And then back to the original topic: I think with this Essence Mk2 becomes even more "sexy" product, with one bit more of that B&O magic we all so frequently here demand. :)
Thank you so much!
Now both my TuneIn presets work, and my Deezer is able to play more than the 30 seconds preview.
I don't get why they don't tell you in the set-up that you need to log in both in the BeoMusic App and the Setup :/?
Hi,
I read almost every post and I am still confused.
My actual setup is a BV8-40 (incl 4 BeoLab Speaker / 1 Subwoofer) The BV8-40 is connected to a BLC (ML/NL) trough a Masterlink-Cable. The BLC is connected to a ethernet-switch. The BS Moment is connected to the same ethernet-switch. The switch to the Router.
Is it possible to replace the BS Moment with the Essence MK 2? Will the TV power-up, if I press something on the "Essence-Knob"? Will the Essence Power and the BV-8 power up and start playing, if I press Music on the Beoremote One? Do I need the BLC?
I checked the B&O-FAQ, but I didn´t find a correct answer. HELP
Cheers Beroli
Hi Beroli,
the question was (more or less) asked somewhere in this (or another) thread.
Since I am interested in a similar question:
'Will the BS Essence (knob or app) be able to turn on a NL-tv/will the NL-tv behave like, if a BS Moment is connected to it/will the sources of the Essence be visible in the source menu?'
I have contacted Beocare to get an answer.
When I receive the answer, I will of course post it here.
However, It would be nice, if someone could try it out and post the results!
Quick update
The Essence MK2 is working with the "wheely" in Bluetooth mode AND the external IR-Receiver!
NICE! Placed the "wheely" on the wall and a Beo4 is anyway next to the sofa...
Very nice Carlito,
Is there a difference in soundquality between the moment and the essence mkII.
koning: Very nice Carlito, Is there a difference in soundquality between the moment and the essence mkII.
Never had the Moment at home. I think there is no difference which you can hear. Had a pair of Beolab 5 before i bought the Beolab 18/19 combo with the Essence MK2, means I'm interested in good sound quality as well.
The main difference in sound quality is the compression ratio of your music library. Spotify is always less dynamic than my lossless music collection...
Having the same problem with esscense mKII cannot store my Favourite TUNE-IN stations, very very irratating!
Box also keeps dropping of the network.
Sorry duplicate now removed
koning:Very nice Carlito
Duels:@carlito. Did you get the White BL20 yet?
Here we go!
hello,
Connected to a Beosound 9000 via Masterlink can I use the Essence MKI / II in a link room like normal as older stuff as e.g. Beolab 2000? So I can listen to sources like Radio/CD, etc.
Can I activate those sources by the knob or only by a remote (Beo4)?
Thanks!
Hi stampfki,
could you describe your setup a bit more?
Do you use a NL/ML-Converter?
hi,
thanks. It's only ML based.
