I recently got my MX5000 and MX5500 repaired and they work great. I want to connect a DVD1 to them, but I need help figuring out how to get the MX5500 to control the DVD1. The US DVD1's do not have a SCART connector, but there are SCART connectors on the back of the MX's. Is this possible?

Good morning,

A long time ago, I was thinking of doing the same thing for my MX5000 and found the following procedure on the web (beolist forum) and saved it in a text file.

Sorry for the bad formatting, the text is pasted from the file and the messaging system inserts extra blank lines

Regarding the connection of a DVD 1 to the USA version of the MX5000.

have done this in the following manner. You buy(or make) the very

expensive scart breakout cable. The scart end plugs into the DVD 1 and

the breakout end plugs into the MX5000 AV2 input. One could probably

use the AV1 scart connection but I did not want to lose my VCR. The

only plugs that you use on the scart breakout ends are the audio left

and right and the phono plug labeled data. All other ends are not

used. You have to run an additional outboard s-video cable. The

s-video on the scart cable does not carry the signal from the dvd(I

don't know why not and I have been through it with the U.S. B&O

people). I use the beolink 1000, 5000, 7000 remotes and all the

functions seem to work properly.

The TV can be programmed so that it recognizes the AV2 port as the DVD.

Therefore you use the DVD buttons on the 5000 and 7000. Shift vcr on the

1000. I don't have a Beo4 so I cannot offer advise here.

Yes I have tried each of these positions. The USA manual reads the same

information. As a matter of fact it makes no difference which position

this switch is in. No video information comes through the scart

breakout cable, at least that my MX5500 can read. I run an addition

s-video cable and that works correctly no matter what position the

switch is in. I went through all this with a very knowledgeable(I

think) B&O factory tech.

Thanks for the details Jean. I believe using a non-SCART connection as you suggest (s-video) I got the picture fine, however I could not control the unit. I connected the data RCA type socket on the through a mini adapter to the control jack on the DVD1. That did not result in any control signals going through. Not sure how it would be different with a SCART break out cable. I will fool around with it some more - I haven't recently tried connecting after the TV was repaired.
