Hey guys,

After owning a white 6500 system minus the turntable for many years, I came across a mint white beogram 5500 in the original box for cheap.  Of course there is the RIAA issue.  I already have an external RIAA amp I built with din connections to allow me to use my non-RIAA turntables with my 6500 stacking systems.  So I could simply use this to connect the 5500 to the rest of the 6500 system.

Alternatively, I have a 6500 beogram parts unit in mechanically junk condition but with fine electronics.  I'm considering trying to replace the 5500 board inside with the 6500 board from the parts unit, so the RIAA is then inside the 5500 turntable.  Going by the service manual it looks like in addition to transplanting the RIAA board I'd also have to cut some traces to bypass the muting circuit that's in the non-RIAA turntables.  Therefore I was considering just transplanting the RIAA together with the 6500 main-board.

I will admit that with the turntables and service manually I have the ability to determine this myself by studying the manual more and opening both turntables.  I figured I'd try to save myself some time by first seeing if anyone else has transplanted 6500 or 7000 internals into a 5500.

Thanks!
Austin

This is no real Problem, i have done this several times. The RIAA is just a addon to the 5500.

Early 5500 also have the fix Points for the RIAA, just bolt it on.

Otherwise exchange the groundplate...

Thanks Die_Bogener.  I don not have to do anything about the difference in the muting circuits on the main board?

Thanks again,

Austin

The muting unit is the same. Just put the two unit besides each other and swap the parts.

On the other Hand, when it is only cosmetical... why not just swap the Exterieur? Pretty easy, just some minutes...?

I would but the mechanicals of the 6500 parts-unit have been abused.  The main bearing has so much wobble it's unusable and I'd have to re-thread and re-adjust that little cord that I hate.  Since the 5500 I have is in perfect condition I'd rather just swap the RIAA board.

Thanks again,

Austin
