Here's an English interview with Marie Kristine Schmidt, Head of Brand, Design and Marketing at Bang & Olufsen, "about their traditions, design philosophy and what kind of responsibility she feels when it comes to keeping the brand alive".

Very elegant lady!
Just saw this:
DANISH™: If you had to describe Bang & Olufsen’s design in three words, what would they be?
MKS: Like no one else.
Yet more fire to stoke for the "audiophile" crowd, is this quote:
"... Bang & Olufsen is fundamentally a design-driven company."
At least we all know that they're more than just design.
Hi Sal,
Maybe she wanted to put that across because it seems as though everyone is more design aware in todays world. We've probably got B&O, Apple, AUDI and all of the beautiful interior design companies to thank for that but I could go on :)
Her answer about PLAY was unusual - i'd say PLAY was born for the smartphone generation - which is practically everyone now :)
If she's responsble for the design of PLAY & BANG&OLUFSEN's website then she's done a great job because, they both shine.
B&O was never an audiophile company, nor wanted to be one.

Chris Townsend: Build some good stuff with rock solid software, the rest will follow.

Please don't forget that Marie was interviewed for a design magazine.
Overall - I don't think, that anything will follow on its own.
I guess it is more a matter of creating a unique combination of clever technology and good design.
By the way - it seems, that a great deal of the B&O costumers focus a lot on (the) design.
Even a lot of the discussions on Beoworld are about design, about liking or disliking the look of the modern B&O products.
I can get a competently performing audio system from a variety of different companies. Only low end and too many ultra high end manufacturers tend to turn out poorly designed and performing kit. For my tastes in design and such, so far only B&O truly provides a product that meets my visual aesthetic, which is why I root for them above all other companies to succeed and get so disappointed when they go sideways as they have recently with some products. If they disappear, it will leave a hole in the market no one else is likely to step up to fill.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

I wonder. Why is B&O going to introduce a 40000 euro speaker?

Exactly. Or why they employ a Tonmeister. I'm with CT, make it bulletproof and the rest will follow. They are about design and audio/visual performance
