Hi,

A friend of mine recently died aged 86, he was a gifted pianist, built valve amplifiers and married them to transistors, worked on loudspeaker design and had many other strings to his bow.

His family have asked me what they should do with his Beocord 1500 reel to reel recorder.

I don’t think that money is their primary concern but simply that it should go to someone who is an enthusiast rather than be dumped.

Any thoughts welcome on what they should do with it !

As you can appreciate I have only joined this forum for advice as I am not an enthusiast BUT I am made keen on motorcycles and scooters !

Gerry

Hi Gerry and welcome to Beoworld - even though you may only be a fleeting member.

The BC1500 is well sought after and it looks to be in good condition.  Condition is everything on these old machines.  Does it work?  It will probably need a good service by whoever does take this on.

Unfortunately - for sale type adds are only for Silver and Gomd members but as you haven't actually offerred it for sale, that is by the by.

On your Bio, you could do with putting your location which will help anyone who may want to help you out.  At worst, you could put it on eBay and there will be some good bidding potentially if it's well advertised.  Alternatively, you could try one of the B&O resellers who specialise more in the more vintage B&O.  You can find them with a Google search as I wouldn't want to tread on toes by suggesting any.

Nice of the owner to want it to go to a good home.  It's appreciated.

Best of luck.

Dave.

Agree with Dave, and if you want it to go to an enthusiast, sign up as silver member and sell here on the forum, If you want to sell on ebay, best place will be in Europe, in US and North America it will sell but for less (I was the only bidder on a BC 2000), In both cases, check that it is working and post a lot of photos and a good description, The BC 1500 is very heavy and will need good packing if shipped,  so as Dave mention, your location is important for eventually pick up by buyer. And thank you for posting it here on the forum.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Thanks for replying.

Good to know that according to the photo at least that it seems in good condition.

I don't think it has been used for some time BUT I do know that Ted alwasy bought good quality hi-fi equipment .. he did work for several Loudspeaker manufacturers and I believe the BBC but I digress.

His remaining family are not computer literate and would not really be in to EBAY etc.

If someone on this forum is interested in seeing it then I am sure it could be arranged though.

Plenty of Beoworlders in that area. Please get in touch with Gerry and help bring this machine back to life.

No interest so off to Cash Converters ... might get £5 and if not up the skip with this mint condition heritage item.

If you are just after a loving home I would be glad to restore and use it.

As I mentioned in the very first post, I was asked by the family of a deceased friend of mine to help them find someone interested in his Beocord 1500.

The deceased family have decided to take it to Cash Converters who have offered £40.

Thanks for the update.  At least they got something for it and no doubt Cash Converters will be able to sell it on to someone who can give it a home.

Dave.
