Dear fellow forum members,

Yesterday I performed a software update on my BeoPlay V1 using the USB stick method. I used this method because the V1 kept giving an network error, as well wired as wireless. The procedure seemed te be successful as I saw the progress bar actually move.

BUT..... after the update my V1 won't start up anymore. I only see the BANG & OLUFSEN text in the right corner, but the V1 won't react on any remote control command at all. When I shut the V1 the screens blanks, but the green power LED keeps slowly blinking.

Anyone any idea what could be a solution here??

Did you remove the power completely from your V1, and connect it again after a minute.

I did remove the power, but maybe not long enough, so I will try that again.

No, unfortunately no solution.

As soon as I plug in the cord again, the power LED starts blinking and choosing TV on my remote control gives me only the BANG & OLUFSEN text.

Is there a PINCODE on the V1? If so, you might try to start entering numbers of the PINCODE at the B&O screen?

I never used a pincode myself. Is there a chance that that the software update has introduced one? And is there a default 'factory pincode"?

I was just grasping at straws when I thought of the possibility of a PINCODE. I highly doubt that the SW update would have suddenly introduced one.

Have you unplugged the V1 and left it disconnected to the mains for a while (ie. >30min). I'm just wondering if it needs a true "reset" and the only way to be sure is to leave it off the mains for longer than a few moments.

Thank you for participating in my frustration!

I have tried leaving the set unplugged for an extensive time (over 1 hour) and I have tried to leave it on with the B&O screen. In the latter case the V1 simply turns off automatically after some time and shows the blinking green LED again.

Sounds like the software didn't take.

Try to factory reset?

That is what I was trying to do, but I really haven't got a clue how to do that! Any idea?

Leave the TV plugged in and doing the logo sequence. Either the power went out during updating somehow or the SW otherwise became corrupted. Leave the logo sequence on for a bit as sometimes the TV can fix itself by re-initiating the DL and re-upload to the TV. If that doesn't work then call you dealer/service to stop by with their computer to try to remedy it.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

Hi Ruud

I had a similar issue with an Avant that wouldn't take a sw update wired or wireless plus for some reason all of the DVB channels were lost. I had to do a complete factory reset and do a new installation, then it all came good. Like your V1 it was only displaying BANG & OLUFSEN whilst updating, I left it to update which took about 20 minutes because the set hadn't updated for about a year!

Hi w5bno123,

did you perform the factory reset yourself or did you have to contact your dealer?

Well, finally the answer is there! Performing a software update with the latest software release on an early Beoplay V1 is a known issue. Apparently this update damages an EEPROM on the mainboard in such a way that a software recovery is no longer possible. So the dealer replaced the entire mainboard and now everything works fine again!

Thank you for your contributions in this thread.

oh wow, i haven't heard of EEPROM since my Tandy 1000 HX computer which was my first. I never even thought it was a thing anymore.

I'm glad things have worked out for you. Wishing you many happy returns with your V1 :-)

B&O always recommend to do upgrades by internet, in your case it did not work. Must be problems with the networkcard from the beginning.

Glad things worked out in a good manner for you, by replacing the mainboard hopefully under warranty. Enjoy your TV!

Crazy

Maybe you should disable auto updates.

You would think if this was know an update would not be allowed.

Are software updates done automatically? or are people prompted to do them? hopefully B&O put a block to the update on the early V1

I can imagine there will be a lot of people going to have this same issue :(

On the avant it's not auto. You can set it to auto if you want
