What do you guys recommend (if anything) to clean/polish the chrome panels on a Beomaster 4500?
I was thinking I might spiff my Beomaster 4500 up a bit with chrome polish, however if B&O used a plastic sealant on their chrome, chrome polish would be a disaster.
Deciding to err on the side of caution I thought I better ask BEFORE attempting this polishing.

Exactly where many owners go wrong. It's NOT chrome. It's aluminium polished to an extreme shine.Abrasives is generally a no-go on this soft material. Almost anything you do will make it dull and grey.
Martin
Why thank you Martin, you just saved me a whole lot of unnecessary aggravation. I am a big fan of Simi-Chrome polish, a German product that is truly amazing on many metals including aluminum with a dull finish.
However the jeweller in me knows that polished aluminum is entirely a different matter, the chrome polish is an abrasive, as you noted, and would have made countless scratches on the surface area.
Again, as a jeweller, I do have polishing equipment that “could” polish the soft aluminum panels, but my set-up is for small pieces, larger items like the B&O panels are difficult to do with wheels that are too small and the exhaust hood getting in the way.
B&O would have used large polishing wheels on a flat surface, so I am “wisely” going to leave well enough alone.
Thank you again for the most appreciated education.
Hi Rich,
Windex should do a good job with either, but I strongly recommend using the clear (as opposed to blue) Windex with vinegar as it is more gentle than the blue based with ammonia.
The polished aluminum should not react negatively to the clear Windex. I have used it regularly on my Beomaster 4500 and Beogram 4500 CD player for years. This cleaning has been a required regular process as both Beomaster & Beogram live in the kitchen.
Just recently I FINALLY smartened up and covered both with a heavy soft towel while dinner is being prepared. Cut my Windex cleaning down to next to nothing, at least in regard to the BM 4500/BG 4500.
The Windex with Vinegar can also be used with light coloured fabrics and carpeting. You can’t do that with the blue variety as it leaves a blue stain.
Hey Rich,
I just re-read your post and you specifically said touch-panels. Sorry about that, however the Windex DEFINITELY with do a superb job on the touch-panels.
The only thing is you HAVE to pull the power plug first as you can not clean without driving the units nuts. I’ve tried to clean carefully avoiding the contact buttons, but trust me; it is a waste of time as you won’t get the units properly clean that way.
Just unplug the Beocord 4500 (the CDX has a power button) clean it and then plug it back in the wall socket.
Now while you are cleaning the touch panels you can also clean the polished aluminum.
