Hi everybody,

I'm new here, I just purchased a Beoplay A9 and I am experiencing AirPlay streaming problems.

i've setup the A9 with the setup app, it's connected to the network, Spotify connect and deeper are working great, but when I want to stream anything via AirPlay from my iPhone it doesn't work.

the A9 shows on my IPhone under the AirPlay icon, but when I select it, it doesn't connect it goes right back to playing through the iPhone.

However, the beomusic app works fine, but it's the only way for me to have AirPlay to work. Via the Beoplay app. Not via any other app or iTunes from the iPhone or Apple Music.

is it possible that the new A9 2nd gen is preventing AirPlay to stream excepts from the beomusic app?

im lost, I love the speaker, I love the sound, I know I can connect via Bluetooth but I want to connect via AirPlay!

Can anyone help?

thanks

What are your Bluetooth settings like ?

Did you "discover" the A9 // phone/pad ?

I'm not having issue with Bluetooth. I'm talking about AirPlay!

I had a similar problem via my iPad Air last week when I received my A9. Have you updated the firmware of the A9? I had to do that first. If AirPlay is still an issue, reboot you iPhone. A hard re-set of the phone may work. Is it running on the latest iOS?

Failing that, I also found that I had to have the volume on my iPad up to maximum, but I still had no music! I had to use the wave action on the A9 to then put the volume up to hear music. It's been fine ever since.

Occasionally, the iPad reverts to stopping AirPlay and randomly plays via my iPad. Not often, but I think it's an AirPlay or iOS problem and not the A9 Itself as the connection strength etc is very good. It also happens with my Essence sometimes. It's frustrating and does spoil my music enjoyment but this seems to be the direction of music availability these days so we have to deal with it.

You are not forced to use the Beomusic app. In fact, I try to avoid it as I find it unreliable.

Good luck. It is a lovely speaker.

Seems to me that my music app talks "AirPlay" irregardless of whether the transport is wifi or Bluetooth

You may be right. But what I mean is I didn't paired my iPhone with the a9 via Bluetooth, I paired it via wifi ( AirPlay) like the A8 or the Beolit 12 works, products that don't support Bluetooth.

The reason why I prefer AirPlay (or streaming via wi-fi connected devices on that Apple AirPlay protocol) is that the quality of the signal is better on iOS. iOS doesn't support aptx yet, and rely only on Bluetooth 3.0

now that being said, I am able to connect my iPhone to the A9 via wifi (AirPlay)

the device is recognized, I'm able to stream on wifi via the beomusic app. Or directly via the Spotify app for instance using Spotify connect.

But it seems impossible to stream from the iPhone using the AirPlay icon in iTunes for instance, when selected, it shows me AirPlay connected devices, I see the A9! I click on it, but nothing happens, the sound still comes out of the iPhone. The iPhone doesn't maintain the AirPlay wifi connection with the A9.

now I went back to the B&O store and tried to do the same connecting to the store demo A9, same result.

However, I'm fine when trying to AirPlay to the store A8, Beolit 12, or other AirPlay speakers. it seems that Only the A9 prevents AirPlay streaming.

Do you have bluetooth enabled or not on your iDevice?

I have A9 Mk2, encountered exactly the same problem once and was able to isolate the cause.

iOS app Hue Disco was preventing AirPlay connecting and streaming every time I had it loaded. When I closed the app I was normally able to do it. This happened to me streaming AirPlay from Tidal.

I suspect it could be some other app for you causing the same thing. If you try closing all apps and even maybe restarting your iPhone and then testing AirPlay it might work. Let us know if it helped.

Yes i have Bluetooth enabled on my iPhone. FYI enabling Bluetooth or not doesn't change a thing. It's with WIFi that I experience streaming isuue.. Not Bluetooth.

I tried closing all other apps, rebooting iPhone. No success.

and weirdly, I experience same behavior with other A9 units.

Looks like if B&E disabled wifi AirPlay streaming on the A9.. Because it works with the A8 and Beolit 12

so I doubt it's my phone otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect to other models...

Well obviously AirPlay streaming was not disabled by B&O for A9 if I stream like that from my iPhone6 this very moment. :)

Were you able perhaps to try streaming AirPlay to A9 from some other (maybe friend's) iPhone or iPad?

Well your post gives me hope!

yep tried with the rep iPad and my iPhone, same issue..if I pair my phone or other iOS devices on Bluetooth then AirPlay works fine, I guess I'll have to stick to that... Sadly.

It is probably a router issue.

i had at some point years back exactly same issue. There was a flag set that allowed the airplay device to announce itself in the network, but not stream to it.

i think broadcast or passthrough or somthing like that

check your settings, might be under advanced. Its security related, you may just google your router name and issue, mght be a common thing. Not all routers have this

cheers

Ok, this is an unlikely option but worth checking:

Open BeoSetup app
Select your A9
Select "Your content"
Select "Apple"
Make sure there is no password set up for AirPlay streaming

I am so sorry you have these issues, but you should not give up. :)

Something's wrong with your phone. AirPlay is horribly buggy and unreliable even when I use it with my ApplTV (and even when it was connected via Ethernet) connected to my BeoLab 5s, but when it works its GREAT.

So obvious testing solution here... Instead of going around testing your phone on everything imaginable see if you can get someone ELSE with an iPhone or iPad to stream via Airplay to your A9. If they can, your phone is screwed up and you probably need to wipe it and start over from iTunes.

I'm so glad I don't rely on AirPlay for business presentations. I'd spend half my life pissed off.

Hello

Got my A9 two weeks ago and have the exact same Issue as Berenger. All the suggestions here didn't help unfortunately. Reseting the A9 and the Iphone, didn't help. No other Apps running neither. As Berenger wrote. Bluetooth and Beoplay Music App work fine but Airplay jumps right back.

I was running IOS 9 Beta. There are known issues with Airplay and IOS 9 beta with many devices. So today I got IOS 9 GM and sadly I still can't connect with Airplay to the Beoplay A9.

Hope either B&O and/or Apple can solve this.

B&O and Airplay have turned into the bane of my life at the moment.  I set up a second playmaker in the house today to check out my new BL4's.  Set-up worked, solid white light etc but - no Playmaker icon under Airplay, nothing on the Beosetup.app either.  It did appear on the setup.app during the setting up and it fleetingly appeared under Airplay for about 5 seconds then disappeared from both never to return for 2 hours.  Switched everything off and on again, no change, restarted the wifi sender - no change.  Then, it all came back again even though the Playmaker clearly thought it was connected throughout.  It's driving me nuts.  When it is connected to Beosetup.app it says the signal strength is excellent so I don't understand why it isn't recognised most of the time.

I've never been closer to hurling an iPad through the air as I have been today.

I hope iOS9 helps.  It seems that B&O and everyone else is aware of the issue, I don't know why nobody fixes it?

Dave.

My Playmaker runs flawless from day one (I was one of the first to buy it.

I set it up cabled via the interface on my Mac Mini.

It run wireless - one of my ATV's runs wireless too, the other cabled.

In all that time I just had to restart it a couple of times - which is very seldom for an AirPlay device.

Nothing to fix there!

My two ATV's always come up on any list, as does my A9 and A8. The ones with the problem are one of my 2 Playmakers and the Essence only. The Playmakers behave completely differently for some reason and the Essence - just has a mind of its own and shows up when it feels like it. A mystery to me. The first Playmaker I had is also flawless.

The wifi signal strength indicators on my Essence were so poor I couldn't be bothered going through the antenna tuning palaver that I had with the BeoLink Wireless 1s ... So I hardwired it and I have seemingly had no"AirPlay" problems although I suspect/ know the wifi definition still seems active

I agree. The BLC is way sexier (because it does need to worry about wifi signal/ aerial transparency

Yeah. I was able to sometime makes it work by tapping my hand on the top of the device as I hit the AirPlay button only iPhone. Seems like a hit or miss.

sometimes I'm able to connect.
