So, I'm planning on getting either the beolab 3 or the Beolab 8000 mk3 as the back speaker to my Beovision 7 with a beolab 7-2.

I went to the a B&O dealer today to get a demonstation and I think that they sound very similar and I can see that the specs are about the same.

Therefore, I would like to hear what you people think about these two speakers?

The way I see it, the beolab 3 has the AL and Icepower, but the 8000 has amazing design!

What are your opinions?

I think they sound quite different! The 8000 has a less strident top end and is also better at filling a larger room. The BL3 is excellent for a smaller room - I used to use mine with a computer. The 8002 has ICE power now so it is only the ALT it is missing. I do not think ICE actually makes it any superior to the older 8000s though - the old AB amplifiers were fine and the change was most likely done to rationalise the range and because of new EU regulations regarding stand by power use.

If you feel they sound much the same, I would pick the ones that fit into your room the best - I agree that the 8000 is an amazing design!

I have a friend who wanted BL3s, but prefers the design of the 8002s. We spent some time in our local dealer demo'ing both speakers. In the end, he agreed with me, that the BL3s are more vibrant, spread the sound better and just feel like they have a more dynamic range. 8002's sounded more mid-range, just less dynamic.

Personally i would go for the 8000s as they are a classic design, look great have a great bass, mid and treble. Sure they dont have tweeters that do 180 degree sound but it doesnt matter for rears to be honest. Also in my opinion the 3s aren't that great design, and as you say yourself you like the looks of the 8000 so go for it.
