Hi all, it looks like my Beocom 2 battery is giving up, it won't hold the charge now if not permanently plugged into the mains, after looking at a couple of threads it looks like it's a dealer job only but as I am no where near a dealer is it that difficult to change the battery and are special tools needed, any advice would be appreciated, cheers

Hi,

Be warned - it is difficult.

Remove the two screws and then the metal plate which holds the contacts.
Now comes the difficult part. You have to compress a large plastic ring and pull it out of the case to get access to the battery.

If you really want to do it on you own, take some photos of the metal plate / connectors and the inner plastic ring before you remove them. This way you are able to put it in the right direction when reassembling everything.

To change it by yourself is easy, once you know how to do it and what tools to use. My dealer wanted to charge me € 80,00 for the exchange, incl. the batteries, if he send it to B&O. Doing it by himself, he charged me € 40,00. Realizing, that this would not have been the last exchange, I checked this forum and found some helpful hints.

You have to unscrew the 2 screws at the bottom with a Torx (T) 6 x 40, costs in Germany € 2,95:

After opening, you will see a plastic ring with 2 holes. Also the batteries cables are connected with the bottom platter. Unplug the connectors carefully. Then use the following tool to turn the plastic ring:

It is from Wiha (www.wiha.com). Another thread in this forum mentions Knipex. I paid € 11,75 selecting the size 19 - 60 mm.

The battery pack from ebay was € 8,40, fitting without any problem. If I remember well, the batteries are connected one more time with the phone, so for exchange, you have to unplug carefully 2 other connectors.

I guess it is a very good idea to make pics and be on the safe side. Although I, not being used doing such a work, found it easy to open, exchange and close the Beocom. There are 2 connections inside, which you can´t mix, except you push too hard.

Have success and a working beautiful Beocom 2 Yes - thumbs up!

Kind regards,

Rolf

Rolf's from Germany... a country of great engineers, many hardware stores and people who like to repair and solve things by themselves. What else do you expect? Smile

If you can't access those tools you should try a shop that repairs mobile phones.
Torx screwdrivers are standard tools for them because many phones use Torx screws.
May be you can borrow some tools or they can help you for a small fee to open the Beocom. Win-Win situation for both sides:
They can see that there are real lovely high quality landline phones out in the world and you have a refreshed Beocom 2.  ;-)

You can buy the tools online. The other tool is a circlip removal tool by the look and description, which you can get either internal, external or combined that will do both sorts.

I purchased a 3HR-AAAU, NIMH, 3,6V, 0,6Ah. Other offerings have a difference saying 0,7Ah which should be O. K. as well. The original B&O pack is 3HR-AAAU, NI-MH, 3,6V, 620mAh.

It has a triangle shape,1 battery on top of the other 2. You see also one of the connectors:

One more thing: I wrote "use the circlip remover to turn the plastic ring". To be more precise: You have to compress the ring with the circlip remover and then lift it. By doing so, you can remove and lift the ring off the phone's casing. The ring is unthreaded.

Kind regards,

Rolf
