On my otherwise perfect and delightful TX-2, the aluminum subplatter is scraping against a plastic gear beneath it. There is very close clearance apparently.
Seems that either the plastic bearing is worn down or the subplatter has become warped. It might be easier to have the subplatter machined than to find a replacement plastic bushing. I tried to get the bushing out but couldn't figure out how.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Hi
I have the same problem with my BG4500. Doesn´t seem to be adjustable? It also causes friction somewhere on the main spindle so the platter can´t spin freely. Is the bushing replaceable? It can be moved up and down but not pulled out of the "cylinder".

This is a common problem and is adjustable. Do not try to replace anything.
The procedure is explained in the service manual which is available on site to silver and gold members.

If you refer to "turntable height and centering" in the manual that does only adjust the platter in relation to the top plate. I need to adjust the height of the turntable in relation to the driving mechanism.

I think you will find that it lifts the complete mechanism up or down.

Does it rub all the time or only at certain arm positions i.e. towards the end of the record?

I have some problems explaining it but it is the fly wheel (the skeleton one) that touches the plastic gear, and those are both part of the driving mechanism that adjusts together in that procedure.
Even if i lift the top cover to "service mode" it doesn´t spin as it should.

It rubs all the time
The plastic wheel that you are talking about is the one that drives the string?

Yes, as seen on this pic I found on Google. My player doesn´t have as much clearance as the flywheel on the picture. That´s the problem.
Has your plastic cog still got a C clip holding it in place?
It is common for it to catch on the small metal plate that is part of the set down adjuster but I have never seen a deck where the skeleton rubs on the plastic wheel itself.
I think this is my exact problem. I have tighten the three screws, so the platter should be in highest possible position, but it still scraping at the end of the record.
The scraping stops if I lift the back of the tonearm (when the needle if lifted)
Help, please
Update:
Went out today and bought washers
Two M8 with some grease did the trick on my TX2
Got this and a Beomaster 1900 for £200 because of this problem
For me it turned out to be nothing wrong but one little embarrassing thing. Since the previous owner took the RIAA card away the he had to connect the signal cable directly to the mute-card. This is a bit to thick to be placed there which can cause it to touch the flywheel. This was in fact the problem in my case - the flywheel got tilted which I didn´t realize right away. I pushed the cable away and now it plays perfectly.
Thanks for the help even though the problem only was me focusing on the wrong side of the player =)
