We would still need the new Apple remote for the extended features. But with the fact that it does have IR support, the basic functions can be done with the B&O remote. Hopefully B&O will update the PUC quickly for the new buttons (ie. SIRI) (except for the touch sensitive area of course).
Siri would also require the remote, the remote has the microphone. The apple tv does not fit in cabinets anymore becouse of the added height to the apple-tv.
I would be surprised if the Apple Watch doesn't also control the Apple TV with Siri.
Historicly the apple-tv was controlable with a app on your iphone or apple-watch. The hardware is there so it's just a update away.
I guess you would not have noticed the impact it will have on the B&O ? No infrared for the PUC to drive!

It's how the new ATV remote can use IR to adjust volume on TVs and turn them on. I think the IR is only the other way around now. As in it's just on the remote and it's only meant to drive the control of TVs from the new remote. It doesn't drive the ATV and thus the ATV can't be controlled by other IR hardware. Makes sense?
I think so ..... I had wondered what Eddy Cue was claiming when he said it would control the television's volume ... So yes, I think the BeoVision is out of that play - especially as it uses a different IR band from the average remote

The new Apple TV (4th gen) has a built in IR-receiver, and the remote has an IR transmitter. So the Apple TV is backwards compatible and the remote can send IR commands to a TV-set or Amp. So we are safe, for now :).

I think that's it the reason for the PS4 not running 4K. Not powerful enough hardware. And that is a weee more expensive than an ATV.

The only thing that really surprised me was that they didn't change the design. I've never heard of that before. Jonny Ive and his team are some of the best designers and they take a 4 year old box and just make it fatter. I'm getting the impression that because it's a cheapish product, that Apple didn't want to spend much money on it. I find it very bizarre.
True Michael. Size wise the ATV has always been perfect. I just thought that a brand new model would have a new design just like every other product that is launched on the market. I was very surprised. In fact, I did a nervous laugh when I saw it on MacRumours because I thought that it was a joke at first. The problem is when you see all of these concepts that really inspiring artists design and then you see the real thing :(
Still my new MacBook Retina is my favourite Apple design to date!

Well, it may be manufacturing / operations, even though Apple has all the money in the world. Take the Airport Extreme / Airport Express / Time Machine for example, they are basically the same design just extruded to different heights. Heck the Airport Extreme is a big empty box, the same as the Time machine, except the Time MAchine has a hard disk and fan in there. Yeah, Apple state that the new design enables something called "beam forming" but it is the same design. Fewer factory parts needed, and a distinct design language for each product line.
I'm waiting for iFixit to take the Apple TV apart to see what they've packed into that box.
Apple, give me a taller Mac Mini with better upgradability options (two more disk bays, and even one PCIe slot) and you'll give me a reason to give up my trusty cheese-grater Mac Pro. Bring back the G4 Cube design with upgraded innards.

Its not like that. It works just as usual. The ATV4 is controllable with a puc cable using the regular ATV commands. MAYBE the PUC can add more buttons but since the new remote uses bluetooth this might not be possible over IR. It depends on what Apple wrote in their code. Anyway, the new remote has touch and the interface is made for more advanced input so I think the new remote will be good to have as well. But B&O integration will give you pause/play and simple features like that so its good for viewing movies etc. A more important question is how the ATV will perform in for example a B&O Avant 55/75/85. Since the back case is aluminum and there is a screen and other metals in front of it there will be some obstacles for the bluetooth communication. This might become an issue. Therefore I would also suggest that people get ready to possibly place the ATV elsewhere. This is also something to consider due to the improved wifi in the ATV. The new ATV features 100 mbit ethernet but 802.11ac wireless networking that might get up to about 1300 mbit. It should not require more than 100 mb but this does mean that there is less and less reason to install a network cable just for the ATV.

Hiort:The remote talks to ATV over Bluetooth. So no need for line of sight. No PUC possible apparently.

As I have measured, you can see on the photo, I think not.
The edge on the right side is 30mm deep and the ATV3 is 23 mm deep.But, as the ATV4 is deep 35 mm, it’s just possible to drop the C1+module.Too pity!!

I would not 'hide it' there anyway, if I wanted to control it via bluetooth.
