Tonight I just discovered that the apple TV remote for the ATV4 is able to control the volume on a B&O TV.
Some days ago I had benne fiddling around with the settings menu on the ATV and activated the option turn your TV on with remote. This feature doesn't work (I guess thats where HDMI CEC is needed), but the volume control works with the auto setting. It even work when I disconnect the Apple TV which suggest that the apple TV remote is able to send IR commands directly to the TV and therefore has a 455khz ir transmitter.

elephant:This my symptom: - press DVD on Beo4 to activate BV and ATV - once the main tiled screen is up I have to press the Apple Remote to get it to come alive
- press DVD on Beo4 to activate BV and ATV
- once the main tiled screen is up I have to press the Apple Remote to get it to come alive
I can wake the apple TV from sleep with a press on the GO button the BEO4 on a BeoPlay V1
elephant:However now that initial press of ATV (and this can be anything: touchpad or menu or home key) causes the BV8 to switch to TV mode !
I can replicate that behavior. I found out that this only happens when "Turn on your TV with your remote" is activated. However if I disable this, the volume control from Apple Remote will still work if it is set to auto via IR.
I Guess that when the option "Turn on your TV with your remote" is activated the Apple remote will send an IR signal with a (B&O) TV command.
This doesn't make much sense for you with af Beovision 8 where the TV command is fixed to the TV source (or is it? The user manual for the MK2 states that its possible to disable both tuners to free up the TV command for other use). but on the newer Beovision/Beoplay TV's its possible to assign the TV command to the Source where the Apple TV is connected.
So here is what I Discovered you can do with the Apple remote so far in TV OS 9.2:
You can turn on a Beovision/Beoplay TV with the Apple remote's Home Button. The TV will start at the "TV" Source which should be dedicated to the Apple TV to make it work.
You can turn the Volume up and down
You can turn the TV off if you go to the menu of the Apple TV and choose sleep now. The TV doesn't turn off when the Apple TV goes to sleep after for example 15 minutes (i tried this with the Apple Remote pointing at the TV)
Only thing I can't seem to make working right now is to make the Apple TV go to sleep (and the V1 go to standby) when I press and hold the Home button on the Apple Remote which should work according to this site https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT205225 It might be a flaw in the Current Apple TV OS.
Somehow now it also seems like my Home Button on the Apple remote won't do anything else like take me to the Homescreen, so I might have played to much around with the settings menu. Might need to reset the Apple TV and start over
After a restart of the Apple TV the Home Button now works as inteded so it is possible to put the Apple TV to sleep and turn of the V1 by holding the Home button on the Apple remote and select go to sleep now.
For some reason the volume controls suddenly didn't work, but after a source change with the BEO4 it was working again. Seems like it is not 100% stable. I will keep using it for some days and report back with my findings

having been using the Apple remote for about three weeks now it seems to be stable after the initial problems. On hiccup though is that once in a while when I press and hold the home button to make the Apple TV go to sleep the TV will turn of but then immediately turn on again. I can't tell for sure what triggers this, but I think I only experienced it in daylight. I will follow up on this behavior.
Sorry if this has been posted before in this thread, but has the Apple TV PUC been updated to reflect the new buttons on the ATV4? (ie. Home Button, for one)
This is probably because you touch some button again. Any button will turn the TV on. With B&o it works best if you turn the feature to switch on the TV off since it will not turn on the correct source. Volume up and will still work fine.
Where do I have to attach the PUC cable on the ATV4? Where is its IR eye located?
Mine is just pointed at the middle of the ATV4. Works just fine. It isn't even attached, as it doesn't stick anymore.
Beovision Eclipse gen2 (GX) w/ floorstand, Beolab 14.2, 4 speaker Shape and ATV4/Chromecast.
Beoplay A9mk4 GVA, Beosound 1 GVA, H2, H3, H8, E6, Beoplay EQ
Mine is more right to centre.
Probably works well anywhere near the front - just try it out!

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Aussie Michael:Ed is that the new one? Do you rate it above the existing one ?
Resurrecting an old thread but I only just noticed this! I didn't realise that the ATV4 remote had a 455KHz output and could control my old BV6! Sadly I can't use the Apple remote to turn the TV on as this function only works via hdmi CEC and mine is connected by DVI - but never mind.
Many thanks to madskp for his post above!
Actually you can use the Apple TV remote to turn the TV on. When you press the Home button on the Apple TV remote it will send a TV command if the Apple tv is configured to turn on the TV . Problem for you is that you can not configure the TV command on the BV6 to be used for the DVI as it is assigned to the tuner of the TV. So if you use this function you will have to use your Beo remote to switch to the DVI input after you turn on with the apple Remote.
Also in some situations i experienced when this function is turned on and the TV command is not assigned to the Apple TV, sometimes the command will be sent and switch to the source assigned to the TV command.
So to sum up. In your case this function is useless.
Thanks again. I'll have a play when my wife's finished watching Wimbledon!
I have made a new thread regarding the IR control functions of the Apple TV and Beovisions with some new findings in regard to Airplay. https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/34673/256188.aspx#256188
