Almost any 'sreaming-device-control-app' can access the content on the actual device as well.
It is definitely a 'remote'.

I said it poorly... I meant "flexibility" in a netlinked B&O environment where it will work (and use connected device functions like the display of a BV for example) netlinked to another device with speakers, or by itself, and "both" with multiroom; whereas with the essence, it isn't truly a netlinked device.

If I select music in the BeoMusic App from a NAS which isn't the primary source for the Moment, will the Moment play the music selected? If so, how does that work?
I'm assuming that BeoMusic will list as sources everything in my network which it can "see"
Thanks!

Hi Sal
just out of Curiosity. Do you read the answers for your questions or do you just ask for fun?
Your questions were answered several times. I am sorry - but I get the feeling I wasted my time to answer your questions in several posts :-(
Sorry, but there are several threads about the BS-Moment with a big amout of informations.

I too am trying to decide between a Moment and an Essence, or nothing and sticking with my Beosound 5. I am very confused and unfortunately many of the answers I read to questions asked confuse me even more. Without hands on experience of the Moment or Essence the answers are not always that easy to understand and/or raise more questions.

BS Moment/BS Essence = addition, replacement or complement - I guess that depends very much on ones habits/listening needs etc and the (recent) setup in the house.
There are lots of ways to use/combine these devices......
How about adding an Essence (without 'wheely', but with the BeoMusic-app) to the BS/BM5 (using the Behringer usb-device) - would give you AirPlay and Spotify Connect as bonus and a free line-in connection for e.g. a turntable.
Let your fantasy do the job 😺

Hi Razlaw,
I don't mind if anyone has any questions to get some informationen about the essence or the BS Moment. It just bothers me a lot, if I read the same questions again, again and again from the same person and a lot of users try to answer/help and again the same question pops up in the same thread with less than 3 pages.
If I don't understand something, I ask again too - but I would response to an answer. Ignoring the answers and asking the same question again is - for me - just unpolite. Maybe I am to vain - but after investing serious time with typing (on an ipad - including the spelling issues) - Today I just had it. I know it was rude and therefore I do apologize. Next time I will think twice before answering to Sal.
But this is what you get, if you mix 2 devices in one Thread. The explaination will not fit for both devices and it will be a little bit confusing.
If you start the BeoMusic App, the first thing what the App is doing - is checking the network for your B&O-Devices. For example - my BeoMusicApp is showing the Beolink NL/ML and the BeoSound Moment - and only, if the BeoMusic App is connected to the same Network. If I don't see any devices on the BeoMusicApp I know something is wrong with my Network - maybe I am connected to a different WLAN.
If you have only a Essence in the network, you will see just the menu and options for the Essence (including your DLNA-Servers - elephant explained this already), If you have only a Moment you will see only functions, that will be supported from this device. In the BeoSound Moment Menu from the BeoMusic App you won't see any DLNA-Servers-buttons, because the BS-Moment is already connected to one dedicated server. The Moment don't support more than one Server - because the philosophy behind the Moment is different to the essence philosophy. There is no patternplay, no moodwheel and therefore no processing of the servercontent necessary. Therefore you will find only a music menu that shows just the tracks from the choosen server (in the settings of the BS-Moment). I can not choose a DLNA-Server in my Network and stream it to the Moment with the BeoMusic-App. If I want to stream music from a different DLNA-Server to the Moment, i can do it only with other 3rd-Party Apps (and not the BeoMusic-App) and stream music from my DLNA-Server to the Moment (e.g. via BT, via Line in in combination with a Airport Express for example).
So you have to decide what is more important for you. If switching between several Serversis more important than the special features from the BS-Moment - you should aim for the Essence.
Cheers Beroli

It's okay, I get frustrated too. No harm done. I merely ask because it is difficult to gather all of the information from disparate threads into one cohesive group of information. I'm sorry if I offended anyone with my questions. They were genuine, and weren't intended to imply that I didn't appreciate everyone else's previous posts and time. I do, sincerely appreciate everyone time and patience.
Thank you.

Without hands on experience of the Moment or Essence the answers are not always that easy to understand and/or raise more questions. Either is a good addition to the BS5. I wouldn't view them as a replacement. Essence is certainly an addition. If you want to replace, the Moment is the way to go. The essence is a complement to BS5 in my opinion. The essence can pull the content from the beomaster5 and play it wherever you like. The moment can do that too but gives you more with deeper and the mood wheel.

You make a very good point when you describe the Essence as a complement and the Moment as a replacement. Looking at it that way, the Essence is the way for me to go. If it it will provide me with the functionality I want, which is where I get confused. I described the functionality I want in a post just a few minutes ago responding to another post. Would I achieve that functionality? Thanks!

Did some searching online. Are you referring to the UCA222? From what you are saying, and from what I found online, am I understanding correctly that I could connect an Essence to the Beosound 5 Aux In with the UCA222. Then to listen to an Essence source, Spotify or music pulled by the Essence from the Beomaster 5, I would just press A Aux on Beo 4 and music from the Essence would start playing, exactly as it does now with the Beosound 5?
I could then use Spotify Connect or BeoMusic app to select music on the Essence being played through the Beosound 5? And could save the cost of a NetLink converter?
Yes and yes!
If you 'only' have the BS/BM5 and the Essence (and perhaps some MLinked rooms): yes!
Look at the Essence as 'just a device', that is connected to the Aux-in (via the Behringer USB device).
However, the NL-ML Converter would give you some other possibilities!!!

Thanks! My decision may be made!
How do I connect the UCA222 between the Beosound 5 and the Essence? USB end of the UCA222 into the Bombaster 5 USB connection? The from the Essence how do I connect from the Essence to the UCA222? PL1 and 2 into the two line in inputs on the UCA222?
Please have a look at the pictures in the posts of today in this thread:
http://www.hifi4all.dk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=46053&PN=1&TPN=722
It is about connecting a Playmaker - but the connections are similar.
Thank you very much Milemissen! Much appreciated.
(My apologies if multiple posts of "thanks" appear. I have tried to post a thanks multiple times over the last hour. None have appeared and now I am getting duplicate post errors)
Thanks again for all of the assistance. I have three more questions.
1. Should my dealer be able to sell me the Essence without the remote?
2. If I connect the Essence to the Beosound 5 with the Behringer, am I correct in thinking the volume control in the BeoMusic app will not work?
3. If I connect the Essence to the Beoosund 5 with the Behringer, will my stand alone V1 be able to see and connect to the Essence via my home network such that I could pull Spotify Connect off of the Essence through the V1 as well as my Beomaster 5 music through the Essence so I could use the apps to select music on the V1 also? V1 currently connects fine to the Beomaster 5 but have no ability to select music with an app.
1: yes
2: it won't - it is fixed from the Essence and must be controlled through the BS/BM5.
3: Yes - but not Spotify Connect and AirPlay. (However, if you can connect to the BS/BM5 using a NL/ML converter, the Essence will just be the A.Aux from your BS/BM5.)
If you - by 'connects fine' - mean, that your V1 can see (and use) the music from the BM5 server, it is another question (your V1 is standalone, right). You can use any DLNA control app (e.g. PlugPlayer or 8Player on an iPad) to choose, what to play from the BM5-server to your V1. N.B. You can not use the BeoMusic app for that!
Update to 2: you could decide not to set the output from the Essence to fixed.
Then you could still use the volume control in the app - but you would have to deal with two volumen controls, which I would not recommend.
There is no way that the BeoMusic app can control the volume of the BM/BS5!
Milemissen...again many thanks for your assistance!
As for PlugPlayer, Creation 5 etc, I have tried many of them and given up. They all see the music from the Bombaster 5, and will all play it through the iPad, but I have never been able to get one of them to control music on the BM5/BS5.

That sounds strange!
I have done that at several occations - (that is basicly also the way the Beo6 works.)
In the controller app choose the server (in your case the BM5) and navigate to the files you want to hear.
Choose the player (in your case the BM5 - not the iPad!) as the playback device. Hit play in the app.
If the files are well-tagget you will see the infos and the coverpic of the choosen music on the BS5.
It is basicly how DLNA-based devices/software work.
I am feeling really stupid right now. I have tried multiple apps multiple times for many years. Never could get it to work. Just tried Creation 5 again following your instructions. This time, for the first time, I got it to work. I don't think I had been getting the player selected properly.
As I have said many times before to you...Thanks!
Razlaw: As I have said many times before to you...Thanks!
You're welcome - happy listening.
Milemissen, sorry for yet another question. I also have a Beosound 3000 which I do not have connected at present. I could never get it to work correctly with the Beosound 5. I looked at the information on the Beointegration site and it seems I should be able to use the 3000 with the 5.
It looks to me like I need to have the AudioMaster setting on the 5 set to off and make the 3000 the master. (My understanding is my 3000 does not have a new enough chip in it to have options 5 and 6 so it can only function as an Audio Master)
Also on that site it shows using the Behringer to connect the Essence to the Beosound 5 as you suggested but mentions the Beosound 5 must be set to Audio Master ON.
Would it be possible to set Audio Master OFF on the Beosound 5, reconnect the 3000 and make the 3000 the Audio Master, and then connect the Essence to Aux in on the 3000?
Would it then function just the same as if connected to the Aux in on the 5?
@Razlav
Connecting the Essense-box to the BS3000 (via A.Aux there) would be the easiest way - if you have it in your setup and the BM/BM5 set as 'not-master'.
You would not need the Behringer then - just the right cable.
Thanks! And the right cable is an rj45 to Band O Aux In, Correct?
Time to reconnect the 3000 and see if I can get it to work.
If you want to be sure to get the right cable, do contact Steve - Sounds Heavenly.
The link is at the buttom (in the webversion) of this site.
I reconnected the Beosound 3000 and as in the past, the system does not work correctly.
BV10 option 6 BV7 option 2 BS3000 option 0 BS 5 Audio Master OFF (BV10 is in same room as BS 3000 and 5, but BV7 is set as Video Master as it is the one with the timer function)
Here is what happens, starting with system off: (using Beo 4 in same room as BS3000, BS5, and BV10)
Press CD: CD begins playing correctly
Select N. Music and press go: CD stops playing but 3000 remains illuminated, N. Music from BS5 begins correctly
Press Sat: BS3000 and 5 turn off, BV10 turns on correctly
Select N. Music: BS3000 illuminates, BV10 screen goes dark, words N. Music appear on screen, disappear, BV10 turns to standby position, N. Music begins from BS 5 correctly.
Select N. Radio: BS5 display changes to N. Radio and begins playing properly. BS3000 remains illuminated.
Now for the problem...
With N. Radio playing, Select N. Music: System for a brief instant goes silent, then continues playing N. Radio. No change to N. Music.
Select N. Music a second time, no response at all.
Press Sat: BS 3000 goes dark, BV10 turns on properly. But BS5 screen still displays N. Radio
It seems everything functions correctly but system will not change from N. Radio to N. Music. It switches from N. Music to N. Radio properly.
Even though I have nothing connected to Aux In on the 3000, I did try pressing A. Aux while N. Radio playing. That appears to work as BS5 turned off and BS3000 remained illuminated.
I guess it is not a big deal if I can not switch from N. Radio to N. Music but if that is not working, I wonder if other glitches will occur with the BS3000 in the system.
Thanks for any suggestions.
One more thing, just turned the system off while playing N. Radio.
BS3000 when dark, lights on BV10 and BL1s turned from green to red, and the BS5 is still illuminated with the N. Radio display.
Pressing red button on Beo 4 again, BS5 still illuminated.
Golding red button on Beo 4 down does cause the BS5 to finally go dark.
Forgot to try Spotify. It does not turn on at all with the Beo 4 with the BS3000 connected.
