Millemissen: Beroli: If your BV was switched on, than the Screen should display the said informations as well - if your BV is a newer NL TV If the Moment is set to use the speakers of the NL-BV, it will turn on the tv, playing the requested 'source'. The problem (!) with the BS Essence is, that you can't set it to use the speakers of the NL-BV. Would be nice, if we could - wonder if they will change that some day. I don't see any technical reason, why it should not be possible - will be a matter of sw. I have reported that as a request to Beocare - maybe someone else should do that as well! MM

So I could not listen to to Essence sources through the speakers connected to my V1?

Millemissen: . 3: Yes - but not Spotify Connect and AirPlay. (However, if you can connect to the BS/BM5 using a NL/ML converter, the Essence will just be the A.Aux from your BS/BM5.) If you - by 'connects fine' - mean, that your V1 can see (and use) the music from the BM5 server, it is another question (your V1 is standalone, right). You can use any DLNA control app (e.g. PlugPlayer or 8Player on an iPad) to choose, what to play from the BM5-server to your V1. N.B. You can not use the BeoMusic app for that! MM

If I connect an Essence to the Beosound 5 Aux In, with the Behringer device, select A.Aux to start playing in a room connected via Masterlink to the BS5, select source/music for the Essence to play, would I be able to use the "join" function on the Beo 4 to turn on my stand alone V1 and have it start playing the same music wirelessly from the Essence that is being sent by the Essence via the Aux In to the Masterlink products?

Carolpa: Razlaw: If the V1 and the Essence are in the same network you can use the join function. Then the V1 isn't standalone anymore. The A.aux command on the BS5 won't start the Essence. You need to control it separately with the beoremote essence or the Beomusic app

Thanks. That is how I thought it would work and was hoping I could use the join function. Using the join function will it play through the speakers connected to the V1? The post I copied a couple posts ago seemed to mention some problem with using connected speakers on a NL tv to play music from an Essence.

I run my V1-40 that I have in my bedroom (with connected BL17) without any issues at all. I have both one Essence mk2 and a Moment and I run these two scenarios and it works flawless:
- Scenario 1: Music playing on the Moment (same scenario with the Essence)... Hit "Join" on the BeoOne remote for the V1-40 and the music streams perfect through the BL17. Of course you need to assign the NL-link source (Music) to the speaker group where you external speakers are setup.
- Scenario 2: My moment is turned off (in stand-by). I relax in my bedroom where my V1 is located. Have assigned a shortcut on the BR One to start the NL-Music source. When the button is pushed the V1 instantly starts to play the music from the Moment (where it was left of when turned off. eg. the playlist or album that I had running on the Moment when hitting the pause-button). I can switch to next/previous track with the BR One which is very convenient. The moment still is not turned on (on the Moment display it just displays "Distributing").
If I want to add in other sources it is so simple. Can hit join in my living room and the BL18 and BV11 is instantly joining the show. Actually... I have been reading a lot on here and have seen many ppl experience problems. I must say that it works perfect in my setup and have been perfectly stable when I got all my network setup correct (running 5ghz and on fixed channel).
Just let me know if you want to have more input
What if:
The Moment AND the Essence are both playing (in seperate rooms) and you want to listen to, what is playing from the Essence in the bedroom/V1/BL17?
Which command would you use? The Moment (PatternPlay) - as you wrote - was connected and assigned to 'Music'. How are the sources of the Essence connected/assigned to the V1? I guess the 'Join' command would not do the job there.(?)
There is a tv - and there is a BV
There is no 'conversion' involded, so: no!
Two NL-devices = multiroom.
Razlaw:Yes, mk2.
Please forgive yet another question, with the Essence, using the Beomusic App, what functions for Spotify are available? I assume playlists? Searching also?
Thanks! Although not the answer I was hoping for. Looking at videos online of the App it looks like Deezer is fully integrated into the App with the ability to select playlists etc? I was hoping Spotify was the same, but I guess it is not. Every time I get ready to order an Essence, I find a reason to take another look at the Moment.

BeoNut since '75
Thank you for the clarification/explanation of the two different methods of using Spotify! Does not seem like I would gain much by adding an Essence as I do not want to stream music to it. I think I will just stay with my Beosound 5.

There are actually two scenarios to above
1. You click "join" on the remote. It will select the first available source on the network (could be either Moment or Essence). If e.g. the Moment sound was picked up and you want to listen to what is played from the Essence you just hit the "join" button once again. It will cycle through available sources to join on the network and play this music through the V1/BL17
2. There are two sources; one Music source for Moment and one Music source for Essence. These sources are visible when viewing the "Sources" list on the V1 (or any other NL-tv for that matter). You can then rename the two sources to e.g. Music Livingroom (for the Moment) and. e.g. Kitchen (for the moment). And then assigne these sources to any quick links on the Beoremote one.
Note that scenario 1 with pushing "join" will not start any music on the V1 if not any music is playing on either Moment or Essence. Scenario 2 however will kick of "distribution" and play whatever music or radio that was played before hitting "pause" on that particular device (at least for the Moment - haven't tested for the Essence to be honest).
Hope this clarified it?
Thanks Luke - it did (for the main part).
Actually the 'double-Join' is very clever ;-)
Your note to scenarario 1: that is logic, but nice to know that it also is handled as logic.
The scenario 2 note I am not quite sure, that I understand.
Do you mean, that if you use a remote Essence/Moment for distributing a source to a V1 (or another NL-BV), it will influence, what is playing on the remote Essence/Moment? That you can't use one source of the Essence/Moment in the local room at the same time as using another source (from the Essence/Moment) in the NL-tv room? In short = only one source of the Essence/Moment can be active regardless of where it is used?
P.S.
Now, when we are at it (for owners of the A6/A9), I suppose, that the 'Join, Join....' function goes for the sources of these devices too!(.)
Sorry if I was a bit unclear in the explanation of scenario 2
Your interpretation is incorrect. You can absolutely use different sources in different rooms without any problems. What I ment was that instead of utilizing the "join" feature on the Beoremote you could instead select a NL-Source on the BV-TV. When you add a Moment for example it adds upp a number of NL sources in the TV list of available sources. Eg -> Select "SOURCES" on the BV -> In the list new NL-sources ar available. E.g. NL TuneIn, NL Music, NL PatternPlay. When you cycle through the sources in the TV it is displayed in parantheses which device that "owns" the source in the syntax NL Music ("SourceName") e.g. NL Music (BeoSound Moment). In my list i have NL Music (BeoSound Moment) AND NL Music (Essence). This means that when in my bedroom I can fire up my tv and select the source of choise. When I do that the music will automatically kick of on the V1 BUT without turning on the music on the Moment and playing through the Moments speakers. So the Moment in this case is used for just distributing the music through a relevant source e.g. Deezer, tuneIn or your DLNA-server. This is very convenient in my scenario since I like to listen to music in my bedroom and can use the Moment for this (also the Essence of course, but since I have both I normally use the Moment).
So to make things simple. Let's say that my Essence speakers in the kitchen was playing my Dinner playlist from deezer and after dinner i turned off the music in the kitchen. Later on i entered my living room where my moment is and played a Jazz album from my NAS-DLNA. When I go to bed I turn the moment off and enter the bedroom. While in the bedroom I now by ONE click can start either stream on my V1 WITHOUT turning on the speakers in the living room or kitchen. So if I select the shared source from the living room, my V1 will start to play the Jazz from my NAS and if I select the Essence-sourc it will start playing from my Dinner playlist.
On top of this I can of course use the App to change music, add/remove rooms to the music stream and so forth... It is really convenient I must say. Much better than my sonos system I used before
Sorry for the quickly hacked text but hoped it is better understandable anyhow. A bit tired to write now so sorry for that
Got it!
Thanks for the clarifications - I guess they might be interesting to other future NL-users as well.
When you are ready - I have another question.
What are the restrictions - what can not be distributed?
I have understood, that you can not distribute something, that is AirPlay'ed (e.g. from an Essence).
And you can only distribute Spotify Connect (again e.g. from an Essence) to another NL-device, if this supports Connect as well?
Is this correct?
mjmedlo:No AirPlay distribution. Work around is aux of an ML device.
Work around is aux of an ML device.
'workaround is aux of an ML device' - what is that supposed to mean?
Omly workaround I know of Is to connect an AirPlay receiver to the line-in of e.g. a BS Essence
in order to distribute the analog output of that device.
My understanding is (confirmed in earlier post when I asked a similar question), that you will be able to connect the moment to the V1 and keep the speakers connected directly to the V1. The moment can play music with speakers connected to a TV. No need for direct link.
I understand that this indirect connection of speakers through a TV would not work for the Essence. The essence needs to be connected in a direct way to the speakers (or indirect only through multiroom set up).
The BSMoment can be set to use the BV/connected speakers as its speaker(s).
Starting the BS Moment through touching it - both sides - will turn the BV on and produce sound directly.
You can use the BS Essence via a BV/connected speakers, when you have configured it's sources as a connected source in the menu of the BV. This includes assigning a specific 'button' on the remote (or an entry in the Source Menu of the BV) to a specific source. See above.
But you can not start the music just by using the 'wheely' of the BS Essence!!!
On the other hand you can have the BS Essence (including 'wheely') in another room with its own speakers connected and still use the sources of it through the BV....if they are on the same NL-network.

Yes (of course)!
Usually I write NL-BV - but skipped it this time.
However, mentioning 'on the same NL-network' should have made clear, what was meant ;-)
If you have configured the converter to use the sources of the Essence, it should work fine there too - but it is a matter of configuring the converter, not of the ML-BV.
Maybe one of the 'converter-specialists' could bring some details.
Just think of it as a network without master and slaves (link products)!!!
Every source appears on the network and can be distributed over the network (as far as there are no restrictions as with AirPlay, Spotify etc).
Razlaw:I need to save up some money and replace my BV7 or BV10 with an Avant or BV11 and move in to the NL world. Again, thanks for all of the answers and information.
elephant:Or have a training budget of a thousand bucks and buy a BLC and plenty of spare time Putting the thousand bucks towards a Moment and a next generation BV would have been wiser but I couldn't wait that long BeoNut since '75
Nothing special....
You need at least two NL-products to have NL-multiroom.
But you will enjoy the V1 and you will learn a lot configuring the converter.
