Dear Forum,

after having acquired a HD ready BeoVision 4-42 I am thinking about how to attach a second HD device (Playstation 3).

What are the options?

1. Add a second DVI Card (from Panasonic) - will this work? I know I need to tell the BeoSystem 2 in the service menu that a second DVI board is installed (I found this in the settings already).

2. Use a HDMI to VGA converter (with scaler to assure the BeoSystem 2 VGA in will accept the Input). A ligawo HDMI to VGA converter has got good reviews on Amazon.

Any thoughts on this issue?
Thanks!

Ralf

Hey Ralf,

you could use a switchable HDMI hub for multiple devices.  Some are remote controlled too.

Dave.

Thanks for another possible solution.

I prefer to add an extra DVI Card to avoid more external devices....

But Beobuddy wrote here some time ago about BV5 HD (which is sort of a BS3+Panasonic Panel).

"the most ideal situation: Buy another component (or DVI) videoboard/module from panasonic and use the free 3rd slot under the panel. But this takes some modifications internally." (http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/5151/46257.aspx)

Could someone confirm that it is NOT plug and play?

Thanks again,
Ralf

If you place a third module, you can  assign it via the service menu. Plasma version setup, as you've already found out.

It's not logical, but essentially it is :-).

After placing a DVI module, you have to tell the system with which AV socket it has to work with. That specific socket gets the DVI option.

A mk4 it set to "Camcord". After that, it is possible to change Camcord to Camcord DVI as I remember it correctly.

So, place another board in the third slot, and assign "AV" beneath that. Then you will have acces at the AV setup to change it into DVD-DVI etc.

The modification I'm referring to is the digital audio-in. Standard there are 2 RCA's for digital audio (on AV and VTAPE) (DD/DTS and PCM stereo with newer software), but the sound module supports a total of 4 digital inputs. So, you have to add these manually if you don't have an original mk4 BV5.

Thanks a lot for your fast feedback.

I will try as suggested and see if a second DVI module can be chosen in the Connections/Camcorder menu.

Bedankt!
Ralf

So it can be done: adding another HD Connection to the Beovision 4-42.

I assigned the slot in the service menu and configured AV as DVD (DVI).

So Set-Top-Box (DTV) is connected to the originally installed DVI Slot and Playstation 3 to the added one (DVD).

Thanks again for your help!

I'm glad to see that it worked out well.

Keep in mind that with the BV5 and BS2, the digital inputs (DD/DTS) are with the Vtape (VMEM) and AV sockets. That's a liitle different compared to the older Avant where the digital inputs are accompying AV and Decoder.

So, your STB/DVI doesn't support DD5.1/DTS at this moment .
