Duels:Talking to a dealer recently the BS5 is still selling well whilst the Moment is not.

seethroughyou:Well that does surprise me too! I never got used to nor got comfortable with those 3 dials on the Bs5 but granted it was rather eye catching and quite beautiful. I would have thought the interface of the Moment which is similar to an iPad interface would sell better. Also surprised because the Moment can play native high resolution files without downgrading like the Bs5 does. May be it takes several years for a product to sell well.
The Moment looks half finished. It looks like a cheap Android tablet was thrown into an aluminium frame and Mr. David Lewis would NEVER given his permission to release the product in its current design. The Beosound 5 is clearly distinguishable as a Bang & Olufsen product. I don't like the Moments usability. On the Beosound 5 it's slow, yes, but it works easier at least for me. The Beosound 5 still offers ML-integration and can be controlled remotely with Beo 4,5,6 or an iPad (if you have a MLGW installed), it can be used for home automation (it forwards/routes e.g. Light commands onto the ML-bus) and it can store your ripped music localy without the need of an additional NAS or computer.Who needs charged music services when Internetradio is there for free since years? Yes, you can argue with the streaming quality but for background music it is negligible. The Beovision 32 is a better TV than the V1 and it looks more beautiful (my opinion) and offers ML-integration. For people searching a small TV e.g. for the guest- or bedroom or a small livingroom, it's a superb option. So it's a good idea to keep it in the portfolio - otherwise customers would buy another brand in need for a smaller TV and it should be in Bang & Olufsen's interest to keep customers attached to them and not to LG, Sony etc. (which make VERY good TVs btw., too).

This is my feeling too. There are so many internet stations to choose from you can usually find a few that you can pick to suit your mood and taste. Those like Radio Paradise have the advantage of very high quality streams and no advertising. More often than not, if we hear a particularly interesting piece of music, the wife will buy it either as a CD from Amazon, or a download from iTunes. The whole concept of paying for a streaming service but losing all your music if you stop subscribing seems to me to be a great concept for the streaming company, but lunacy for the customer!

Very interesting thread. I have been looking at the Moment as I would like iPad control over my music. However, every time I look at my Beosound 5 I find myself liking the way it looks and not wanting to replace it with a Moment.
Maybe I should get a Gateway instead. What sort of control would I have of the Beosound 5 through an iPad if I had a Gateway? Price of Gateway?

I fully agree with Chris here. I also have the BS5. I think what makes B&O special is the integration of mechanics in a product to control media.
Liking the wheels or not, in my point it is a real statement of integrating mechanics and alu in a music system in a beautiful way. And I think the BS5 gives you more a real B&O touch than the moment.
But the missing integration with 3rd party tools like iPad or similar is probably the biggest problem with the BS5. Actually, not many things had to be changed to make the product close to perfect in my opinion.

I have a BeoSound 5 and a MLGW. With the Gateway, you get a great interface on your iPad using the BeoLink app that shows cover art lists of all of your music that's on the BeoSound 5. You can also easily search through your music library on the BeoLink App. Another nice feature of the BeoSound 5 is the 2-way communication with a Beo6 remote. You can search through your music on the Beo6 and it shows the cover art of what is playing and keeps showing the cover art if you return the remote to the charger. I think it's quite a shame that the 2-way functionality of the Beo6 was limited to the BeoSound 5. It would have been nice to have applied the wifi to other features as well.
If You want to use an Ipad or Iphone as a remote with the Beosound 5, you can install the Creation 5-app in your Ipad/Iphone. This app works great with Beosound 5. Just put the BS5 Musicserver to "yes" and then you are up and running......

....and how about those, who prefer a streaming service for their music listening?
And how about those, who like the MoodWheel/PatternPlay features?
And how about those, who don't want to use a device, that is always 'captured' from another family member to play games or such?
And how about those, who don't want to spend, what a BS/BM5 + an iPad + a BLGW + a Beo6 costs
How do they use the BS/BM5?

That's right. You could always assign Spotify playlists, albums, etc., to "favorite" presets on the BeoSound 5 and manually add cover art on the MLGW to show up on the BeoLink App (such as with radio stations and tv stations on the Beo6). However, there is no 2-way Spotify feedback.
Duels:Let me add that I think the Moment concept as explained in an video posted elsewhere on this site is excellent. But the sales numbers aren't there locally or for the company.
It sure is hard nowadays to sell an audiosystem - people have tons of alternatives with filebased music.
This was not so as the BS/BM5 was launched.
Do you think a BS/BM5 would sell better than the BS Moment, if it arrived today?

The unfortunate thing about the Moment, and maybe I'm being unfair to it becuase it is the nature of things in this day and age with digital media, is that if the moment was merely a high end internet streamer, and had no connection to a NAS, then it would not have the reputation that it does now. But because so much is required of users in order to get the Moment to "play nice" with their own media it makes the Moment stand out as not one of B&O's best executed devices.
I do think that, as others have pointed out, if the Moment was developed as a standard DLNA renderer for music, and wasn't so reliant on Twonky, that the end result would not have been as initially negative as it has been. Then again, it's all about the software.
It's just possible that people aren't spending money on hifi systems anymore. This forum is an absolute minority.
Don't forget that music is so much more something that travels with people now. They have their phone everywhere with them, they dock it in their car, they stream it to bluetooth speakers or dock it in something like a Bose Sounddock. It's just possible that the majority of people love this ease and maybe after a dock in the city and a hard workout at the gym, they maybe just want something to play music with ease.
Plus of course, there's Richer Sounds in every city selling speakers and amps from £50 which seems to cater for people who want separates.
The sector market for spending £1800 on a tablet that isn't particularly very good just simply is not there and never will be. For most people, a MacBook Pro is the holy grail and this thing which doesn't really do much is £800 dearer than that and that's without speakers.

Paul W makes a great point above. Remember when the Stereo, or HiFi was one of the focal points of people's living rooms? That's not the case anymore, which makes it difficult for companies for B&O and the like to create compelling reasons for the general public to invest and make purchases for "stereos" and similar products.

Where do I find the music server setting? I have AudioMaster set to on. Creation 5 finds the music on the Beosound 5 but does not control it.
Thanks
Found Music Server setting and have set to yes. Still no control although /creation 5 lists all the music from the Beosound 5. Any thoughts?
