Hoping this post finds more people who read it as opposed to the workbench forum;
My Beosound Century has stopped responding to its remote functions after a power failure. I have tried Sound-1-Store and Soud-0-Store settings but no luck. The unit otherwise works fine. My Beo4 remote also works fine with other kit.
Any ideas?
Zwets:My Beo4 remote also works fine with other kit.
I'm confused. Did you try the Sound-1-Store via a Bl1000 or Beo4? I'm sure I read somewhere that someone with a similar problem got it going again with a BL1000.
If you have tried it with a BL1000 I would put the Century into test mode and even presetting the eeprom whilst in test mode. Probably won't help at all but worth a try.
Connect the unit to the mains outlet. Within 30secs press:
The display reads 8888 when the unit is in test mode.
Test mode is abandoned when pressing the standby button or disconnected from the mains.
Press 07 whilst in test mode for the presetting of the eeprom.
As mentioned, this is what I would try just to see if it helps.
If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments.
I initially tried on the keypad of the century itself, but have also tried with a Beolink 1000. I also tried it on a second Century I have and al works from the keypad and BL1000.
Tried the service mode and reset. No difference.
I once had a century with a faulty IR-Receiver, otherwise fully functional.
I don't know how good you are in hardware / soldering.
And the chip named U2506 is a bit hard to get nowadays .

It's not THIS ONE is it?
I also had a similar problem which was much easier to resolve. There is a capacitor at the end of the IR board that's right at the end of the glass door, and somehow the door hit it and smashed the capacitor, breaking one of the leads. Simple fix. If the rubber pad that's supposed to be stuck on the end of the IR board is missing or damaged, the door can contact the capacitor and cause some damage.
good luck,
Bill

nope, this one
hi
i had the same problem.
Remote BEO4 not workong...ind than i do that :
And now remote + CD player not working any more!!! ...thanks ...now what to do ???
I have a Century and found my Beo 1000 remote did not operate. I tried it through the system itself but was to no avail. However, what I did was hold the remote directly facing the stop button on the Century; using the remote, I pressed STOP first, then Sound-1-Store and it worked perfectly. Mind you in saying this the 1000 does not have the strength to use too far away from the unit, whereas the Beo 4 Remote has a stronger signal.
I hope that this helps.

Hi
i just repair 2 pcs of Century with remote receiving problem.
both MK2.
and in the 90% they need to be change all 3 elect. capacitors at remote control PCB.
cost..1€ max :)
hope it hepls you..
Did you take any pictures? I would like to attempt this repair.
On the PCB are only 3 ( ELKO ) capacitors ( 2x22uF 6,3v and 1x4,7uF 6,3v )
Change all 3 as thay are possibly dry.
hope you fix it :)
I am not super techinical. How do I get to the remote board?
1. Remove glass pannel
2. Remove speaker frets
3. Remove CD playes front
4. Remove cassete player front
5. pull out remote control PCB...
6. Change parts

It's worked properly for me in first try.
Best regards

Hi again.
I just chance the 3 condensations on the IR PCB board. In the middle of the B&o Century in the right side af the glas door you can se the IR print board.
Best regards Bobby
If others have the problem with the remote control - no reaction - then you have to change only 2 small condensators on the small IR print board,
Price less then 1 euro.
The print board are mounted on the mother board and you can easily see it if you take the front of the Century.
Thanks Bill, this fixed my problem, the little rubber pad had come off, back on all fixed. Thanks again. Ken
