Well not really dead, just very silent!

The PCB seems to be working well with the diode lighting up, but there isnt a single sound coming from it.

Has anyone found any "general-faults" with the amplifier or is there an easy fix for this?

And if not, is somebody willing to sell (or point me in the correct direction for getting one).

This is a fifth 8000 that Is quiet old, so not to keen on spending bucks on it.

Thank you in advance!

Most likely acidic foam eating away at the circuit board copper traces.
If you tell us where you are based, maybe we can guide you to a nearby repairer.

I am located in Malmö, Sweden.

I took the the board out and had a look at it, it is COVERED in what looks like the foam.

Is it any idea to try to clean it?

I think the last person who described this a few weeks ago used iso-propyl alcohol. Search the forum for beolab 8000 and that thread should appear. Obviously, don't do anything with it whilst it's plugged in. There may well be electrostatic discharge sensitive components so work appropriately if doing it yourself. Others can advise you on that.

I suggest you contact Martin (Dillen) in Copenhagen, and he just loves cleaning off old foam Big Smile

Thank you both for the answers! Will try to clean them this weekend and see if it helps!

I actually tried to search for the answer but couldnt find anything after going through 10+ pages so decided to just ask instead!

So it seems like this is becoming a more common problem now as the 8000s begin to age. I wonder... will this eventually happen to ALL of them, even the later "bass updated" models?

If so, someone should put a nice thread, if it hasn't already happened, showing pictures and details as to what it is that is deteriorating, where it falls on the board and how to potentially fix it. The 8000s are amongst B&O's longest lasting most popular speaker in history, and in my last few times on this forum I hadn't seen this problem even once, now I've seen it two or three times in a matter of a couple of months.

I at least will appreciate that, my BL 8000s are 13 years old, so maybe I will run into the same problem

Same here. I bought mine in 1997, so they're 18 years old and still functioning fine, but I suppose I'll eventually have to face this issue. Unless I can convince my wife I need a pair of BL5s in the living room and then move the BL9s into the dining room.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad
