Gents,

Came home to find that after a heavy rain, the window leaked all over my system:

SC80

Beomaster 8000

Beocord 8002

Beogram 8000

Beovox S75

Water seeped into the all the components, rendering them non functional.  There is also spattering / corrosion to the wood finish on the cabinet and speakers.

I have contacted my insurance company, and an adjuster will be in touch.  I haven't seen too many auctions for a complete system and am wondering what replacement value is.  Any input appreciated.  I am located in the United States.

Thanks!

Oh no - disaster! Often if the water is allowed to dry before you turn on the power, they can be fine. If you are having a claim check on eBay for completed or buy it now auctions and that will give you an idea. Take the cartridge off and keep it or sell it separately if it's a good one. That alone could be worth 200$ or more if it's a 20CL.

A fully working and good condition BM8000 can be 300$ plus, the Beogram 8000 similar, the Beocord less - maybe 100-150$ or so. The SC80 cabinet could be 100$. It depends on the market at the time but the 8000 series is sought after.

Dave, thanks for the input.  I seriously doubt I could replicate the system for less than $3k.  Checking out completed auctions on US Ebay, I see turntables for $1k, receiver for $800+, tape decks for $300.  No mention of the cabinet, which is rare and undoubtedly expensive!

Sounds like you have better prices across the pond.  I may have to import.

Thanks again.

'Not sure where you're seeing any of  this.   I see a Beogram 8000 that someone wanted $1,000 for that didn't sell.  The most expensive one sold for $690, and that was for a 'frame off' dealer restoration with upgrades.   No 8000 receivers for $800 and no 8002 tape decks for $300.   And since you made no mention of operational / cosmetic condition, or accessories included if any, Dave quoted you average selling prices rather than what the most pristine example might sell for.

As has been said - those items dill not sell at those prices. 3000$ is at least double what you could pay for a very good 8000 system. If your examples hadn't been restored recently, or at all, they were heading for component failure anyway and therefore worth less than newly restored items that have had a lot of work done on them - such as the dealer restored 8000 TT.

I just paid 200$ for a cabinet (including the heat shield). You could have fun with the loss adjuster.

Have you actually tried any of the units yet? After a clean they may be fine.

Thanks for the input, and my apologies for the multiple posts!  Yes, all components were thoroughly overhauled mid 2013, shortly after Leslie's visit.  My system is mint, and I truly don't believe I could replace it for $3k.

Yes, I let them sit for several days, then took a hair dryer to them for some time.  No joy.  Don't really feel up to disassembling, cleaning, reassembling, then testing.

Hopefully this only posts once!

Quick update for anyone who might find themselves in a similar situation.  After providing receipts, copious photographs, etc.  the insurance company made me a ridiculous offer.  One letter from my attorney, and I recovered my full value plus time without use of the equipment.

Moral of the story?  Know what your gear is worth and stand your ground. (and have a good attorney)

Glad to hear you got the insurance sorted.

Is none of the 8000 salvageable ?

Pack each component into an airtight bag with silica gel and leave in a warm place will remove any residual moisture.

Kevin,

thanks for the offer.  I have already replaced most of the items, but like many here I am infected by the BeoVirus.  I'll send you an email.

Valve1, I am currently on holiday but will try your suggestion upon my return.
