I am going to update my tv soon.  I would love to have the Avant but it is to expensive for me.  Do you think B&O will introduce a new tv at a lower price point?  If not what would you recomend?  I will be using it with beolab 17s.

I would go for the new Panasonic OLED tv and Beoplay connection hub to connect BL 17.

Despite being a B&O nut and adoring the Avant my wife wasn't having any of it and said no to spending £7000. We bought a £1000 Panasonic and I have to say it's superb and now in the cold light of day struggling to see how I could have entertained spending that much. I just think TV technology changes too quickly and if I'm honest, I struggled to see any discernible difference in picture quality between our Panasonic and the Avant in the shop. Sound is half the picture as B&O say and now with the Hub you can connect the Panasonic OLED to a set of B&O speakers. Best of three worlds: excellent Panasonic picture, excellent B&O sound and £4-5000 under your mattress to blow on Fish & Chips, Beer and Curries, vodka jelly and ice cream or whatever takes your fancy.

PS.

Dead certain they will introduce a new V1 and probably a new Bv11 next year so if you hold out then that's the one to go for! You might also pick up some used Avants next year when they go to OLED.

.

Present: BL90, Core, BL6000, CD7000, Beogram 7000, Essence Remote.

Past: BL1, BL2, BL8000, BS9000, BL5, BC2, BS5, BV5, BV4-50, Beosystem 3, BL3, DVD1, Beoremote 4, Moment.

And what about Dolby 5.1 Sound??!!

There's still NO DDS Module in any TV, but in Loewe and B&O.

Thanks for your help.  I do have a pair of beolab 17s and an essence mk1 and the transmitter1.  B&O tv would have been my first choice but the v1 is to small and the Avant to pricey.  I would be stuck with stereo sound though. Maybe later I could add a bluray player like an Oppo that could decode surround sound.

Has anyone else heard of a 48" tv arriving next summer.

It seems a fact that a lot of the tv-buyers today care much, much more for picture than for sound.

Connecting a pair of B&O speakers to a non-B&O tv may give a person a slice of the B&O experience.

But it certainly won't give you the qualities of the in-built audioengine of a BV - not to speak of the tv speaker(s).

I am not sure what prices are any longer, but a BV11-46 might be a good choice. The screen is excellent and the sound is beyond what you would get with a non-BO and BL17s. I think what is little understood is how well the BV acts as an integrator and eliminates the needs for a lot of separate components as you build out your system. By the way if you have BV17s, in future you may want to add a BV19 - substantial improvement in performance whether you use it with the BV or the BL17s alone.

BV11-55, BS9000, BL1, BL19, Transmitter 1, Beo4, Beocom 6000, BeoTalk1 200, Sennheiser HD600, McIntosh MHA100

If you decide for a non-B&O-tv, I'd get the Transmitter 1 with infrared sensor and connect the BL 17's through WiSa. Eliminates cables :)

LG 55EC930V 55" inch curved OLED screen. Puts any other TV on the market to shame in terms of picture quality! Black = Black, in black scenes you could assume that the TV might have been switched off. Wink

But you definetely need serious speakers (= Beolabs) for it! :-)

How have you got yours integrated with your B&O environment?

I'm still waiting for my Beolab 7-2 to arrive. Than I want to experiment with:

- Beolink converter 1611 as Videomaster and with an IR-eye: That would allow to control it via Beo 4 with "TV" - as far as I understood from the forum
- Playmaker
- Beoplay Hub

I was wondering the same, is it the good time to get an Avant (and will it be a step from my BV11-46 ?).

I believe an MK2 version will see the daylight in Czech Republic one day.

Until it is HDR capable, never I guess. I couldn't bare spending £7,000, to then find a Mk2 or its replacement with a much better picture quality turns up. It's not quite like going from black and white to a colour tv, but it is a game changing leap.

A 7-40 Mk6 went for just over £2,200 the other day. I've seen the 7-40 next to an 11-40, and the 7's picture was noticeably better. Just a thoughtYes - thumbs up

Here's a little rundown of the best TVs out right now for WAAAAY less than an Avant that you can combine with your Beolabs:

*Sony XBR65X950B (end of life and available for easily 1/3rd of its price right now, will not likely be HDR compatible, a "950C" model is expected to be out soon).

*Sony XBR75X940C runs about $7000.00 US, but that's still a lot less than the Avant here and WAY bigger. Sony has the best 1080P to 4K upconversion engine in the world in my opinion.

*LG 55 and 65EF9500 Flat OLED 4K TV. Here in the states these are dropping *FAST*. There is already one retailer selling the 65 inch TV online for 4995 and including an EXTRA free 4K 49 inch LG TV and a little MP3 boombox thing. The "EF" flat models are HDR ready out of the box. The "EG9600" curved models need a firmware update. The "55EC9300" 1080P one, like what TWG has with his being the Euro version, is selling here for under 2000.00.

*Forthcoming Panasonic OLED. This will reportedly take the superb picture quality of the LG to new heights with Panasonic's processing circuity.

Stepping down in price a bit, and I don't know if this one is sold in Europe, but the Sharp LC-70UH30U is a spectacular buy being 70 inches and having THX certified picture modes right out of the box for right around 2k. It doesn't have full array local dimming or anything fancy like that, but it's a solid picture at a large size for a very reasonable cost.

You may have noticed I left Samsung out of my rundown. We have a UN65JS9000 with the nano crystal color (Samsung's version of quantum dots referenced as "Triluminos" by Sony in their version), 1000 nit peak brightness, and HDR compatibility right out of the box. And despite the stellar reviews for this model, and the step up JS9500 which is a full array set... I am not a Samsung fan. Too many people I know, including myself have either experienced poor samsung quality, had problems with their customer service, or otherwise found them to be way overhyped for what they are. Two people I know hate their galaxy phones with a passion. We only got the 9000 because it was a returned model (never installed, customer just decided they didn't want it) and was 2299, or some 1500.00 below retail. Even then I don't think it's that great. But many will probably disagree with me.

Unless you are getting something with a Samsung panel inside it, but with the rest made by someone else, I say stick with Sony, LG or Panasonic. The construction quality of their materials and stands is just in another league to Samsung's own entirely.

I did go to the Sony center to day.  I really liked the x9 slim series.  4k and very good picture quality.  Costs about 1/3 the price of an Avant.

I could watch and listen a Loewe Reference 55 and the sound and PQ are both excellent! And still much less expensive than an Avant and you can connect Beolabs (I had BL connected to my Art UHD and it worked fluently). It also has electronic curtains and contrast glass.

Good evening,

But when you compare the price with an Avant, you have to add the price of a surround processor and a center speaker that you will need to include with the Sony TV in order to have functionally equivalent equipment,  if you want to compare apples with apples. The final cost will be then more than 1/3 the cost of an Avant.

Jean

connecting beolab speakers to a loewe tv is beyond easy as long as its a model which has the dolby digital dts decoder built in, all you require is the digital audiolink adapter which you get from loewe it connects to the tv via rj45 cable, the older audiolink cables screwed into the tv itself.

The end of the audiolink cable has pre-out sockets on the end which all you would need is rca audio cables split the cables and connect one to each beolab speaker with the other ends going into the right and left pre-out sockets on the loewe tv then set the speaker switch to line on the speakers.

Then go into the audio settings on the tv telling it that your using powered speakers and from there you can set speaker distances and frequencies via the tv, once done you use the the loewes remote for volume which outputs sound to the speakers.

The beolabs will turn on and off when they sense a signal from the tv, how i know this well ive done this twice once when i owned beolab 17s and the second time was when i had the beolab 14s used with a loewe individual slim frame tv.

It didn't require any trigger solutions for the speakers. i would love to have a pair of lab 20s with an loewe refrence 55 uhd tv as the latest models come equipped with dolby true hd and dts hd audio built in.

Did you not find that the rear speakers would turn off with a popping when nothing was happening for a while, I had this happen when I had my beolab a connected to my amp through RCA?

I'm unsure if the question was to me but i only ever ran 2.1 with the 14s and 2.0 with the lab 17s i never had the speakers shut off once they always turned on and off whenever the tv was switched on or off like clockwork.

Yes, saw Loewe in Harrods this august just near B&O. Great look, great value for money.

Loewe linked with Chinese maker Hicense but has stuck to German premium positioning.
